The Douglas County Attorney’s Office is seeking a paralegal intern for the Fall 2026 Quarter.
Description
Paralegal interns will assist paralegals and administrative assistants with a variety of tasks related to administrative and legal support services under the supervision of an attorney.
The typical duties of a paralegal intern may include, but not be limited to, a variety of paralegal and administrative assistant support assignments including but not limited to the following:

Pick up and distribute mail; scan, copy, and forward documents to designated
staff for processing. - Assist with investigating charges of discrimination, prepare position statement drafts, and prepare and distribute exhibits related to assigned cases.
- Prepare and serve subpoenas for workers’ compensation or litigation matters.
- Prepare medical record summaries providing histories in litigation cases and
research drugs, illnesses, and medical conditions relating to cases. - Track and monitor active cases or pending litigation.
- Draft legal documents, letters, appeals, memoranda, pleadings, documents,
contracts and other documents for review. - Assist attorneys in preparing for trial and/or administrative hearing (i.e. Civil
Service, etc.) including but not limited to preparation of exhibits, instructions,
briefs, and other documents. - Schedule depositions and other events, ensuring current attorney calendars
(e.g., meetings, hearings, events).
Qualifications
Successful candidates will be current students attending an accredited college or university, or an accredited paralegal program. The ideal candidate will have excellent research skills, show attention to detail, and desire to work as part of a small team of professionals. S/he must be able to understand and follow exacting verbal and written instructions; be able to communicate effectively, in English, verbally and in writing. S/he must have experience using electronic legal resources to complete research and be able to utilize word processing skills to prepare documents. S/he must be able to report to work with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.

Work is generally performed indoors in an office setting. Noise level is usually
moderate. Hours of work are generally standard day-shift hours.
Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting and standing, frequent walking, and occasional balancing, kneeling, bending, and reaching. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift and carry supplies, equipment and documents weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
During the Fall 2026 session interns must generally commit to a part-time or full-time schedule. However, specific hours will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Normal office hours are between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flexibility available.
