Public Power Communications Intern

WAGES: $18.00-20.00 hour based on qualifications & experience
Job Type: Intern/ Part Time
Schedule: Average of 20 hours per week; Monday- Friday, 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM, schedule varies based on availability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver’s license
- Prior experience working in a municipal environment preferred
- Comfortable working in a professional environment with guidance and support
- Strong written communication skills with attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Curious, motivated, and eager to take initiative when appropriate
- Able to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively as part of a team
- Interest in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field
- Basic understanding of project coordination or the ability to learn organizational tools
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with photo or video tools is a plus but not required
- Clear verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage time effectively
- Proficient in written and spoken English
- Must be currently pursuing an undergraduate (Junior standing or above) or graduate degree. Preferred field of study: Communications, Public Relations, English, Political Science, Public Policy or Public Administration
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Energy Services/Communications Supervisor, the PPCI will assist with communications, outreach, and public engagement activities while gaining hands-on experience in a public-utility environment.
- Assist with coordinating public events, workshops, and outreach initiatives
- Support the development of customer-facing materials, including safety guides, newsletters, and reports
- Help maintain and update content for the MGED website and social media platforms
- Support public awareness initiatives, including natural gas safety communications
- Assist with drafting content for internal and external communications for review
- Help coordinate with vendors and organize communication or promotional materials
- Support communication of initiatives and messages from senior leadership
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Physical Demands:
- Work is performed mostly in an office setting; hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to balance, stoop, kneel, or bend.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
