About Adapt
Adapt Functional Movement Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Carlsbad, CA, dedicated to enabling individuals with neuromuscular and disabling conditions to live more fulfilled and capable lives. Our community-centered approach blends movement, education, and human connection — serving members navigating Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, spinal cord injury, and other neurological conditions. We partner with UCSD Health, patient advocacy organizations, and leading pharmaceutical sponsors to advance access and
awareness for the communities we serve.
The Role
We’re looking for a motivated college sophomore or junior to join our team as a Community Engagement & Marketing Intern. This is a hands-on role supporting the Director of Community Engagement across social media, content creation, event promotion, and relationship management. You’ll work directly on real projects that shape how our community sees and connects with Adapt — and you’ll leave with a portfolio that reflects meaningful, mission-driven work.
What You’ll Do
• Draft and schedule social media content for Instagram and other platforms, including event promotions, member spotlights, and community announcements
• Support the development of our monthly member newsletter, including writing, editing, and coordinating member feature stories
• Assist with event promotion and logistics for community workshops, sponsor events, and outreach activities
• Help research and prepare materials to support corporate sponsor and partner relationships
• Capture and organize content (photos, quotes, stories) from facility visits, events, and member interactions
• Support general marketing and communications projects as needed
Who You Are
• Currently enrolled as a sophomore or junior pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Health, Kinesiology, or a related field
• Strong writer with an instinct for clear, human, and engaging communication
• Comfortable with social media platforms and basic content creation tools (Canva, Instagram, etc.)
• Organized, self-directed, and reliable — able to manage multiple tasks with light supervision
• Genuine interest in disability, rehabilitation, health equity, or community-based nonprofit work
• Experience with photography, video, or graphic design is a plus but not required
