Full-Time (40 hours/wk)
Non-Exempt
Salary/Wages: $18/hour (approx. $37,440/year) with health, vision, and dental insurance covered in full immediately. This position also comes with a $30 monthly wireless stipend and mileage reimbursement for program-related travel.
Job Location: Primarily on-site, with 10-20% travel (mostly local)

About the Center: Since 1992, the non-profit Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning has been meeting the educational and artistic needs of Lexington, Kentucky. Located in a former Carnegie Library building, the center seeks “to empower people to explore and express their voices” through writing, reading, and the arts. The Center serves thousands of Kentuckians annually with classes for lifelong learners; unique tutoring and mentoring programs; accessible community space, and other imaginative learning opportunities.
Overall position responsibilities:
Primary duties:
- Deliver educational programs at Title I schools, the Carnegie Center, and elsewhere in the community (Youth Meeting Authors, Family Fun and Learning events, Youth Poet Laureate, programs offered in partnership, etc.)
- Manage the Youth Poet Laureate program, involving the selection of the YPL and ambassadors, programming/readings, etc.
- Plan and oversee the annual summer program, Camp Carnegie, including instructors and camp assistants, supplies, and other needs
- Coordinate with public partners on programs at satellite locations such as schools, community centers, Lexington Public Library, and other off-site locations
- Schedule room assignments for CCLL youth programs, maintain updated calendar
- Purchase supplies for all youth programs as necessary
- Recognize sponsors of programs and events through promotional materials and verbal comments at events
- Create and review program evaluations
- Represent the Carnegie Center at youth/children outreach and volunteer fairs/events
- Recruit, train, manage, and celebrate volunteers who give time to the Carnegie Center and programs serving children and adults
- Maintain lists of volunteers, authors for children and youth, and others for a variety of youth programming needs
- Obtain in-kind and monetary community partner support for programs, as needed
Other Duties
- Supply stories, stats, and information about programs to development for grant documentation
- Work with the Director and other members of the staff to ensure that the Carnegie Center continues to fulfill its mission to the community
- Work some evenings and weekends as the position requires
- Assist with annual Carnegie events, such as Carnegie Classics, Hall of Fame, and the Books-in-Progress Conference
- Work with the marketing department for website updates
- Other relevant duties as assigned
Position Requirements
- Experience working with children and managing volunteers
- MS Office, Google Suite, basic tech skills, Zoom, etc. and general comfort with technology
- Ability to stand for multiple hours and lift up to 25lbs, and other physical demands as required
- Ability to travel to off-sites and transport tabling and event materials
- Strong skills in networking, record-keeping, and with database experience preferred
- Bilingual preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
