Imaging Technologist Multi-Modality

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Special Imaging Manager, operates computerized tomography (CT) scanner to obtain quality images for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.  Positions patients for procedures, prepares radiopaque media, operates scanner, and manipulates images to better demonstrate anatomical structures.  Maintains proper documentation, provides a thorough history, and communicates effectively with the Radiologist.
 

JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions

  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process.
  • Operates CT scanner's computerized controls and enters commands necessary to visualize and manipulate screen images. Operates various peripheral equipment such as disc drive and post processing work stations.
  • Transfers patient to bed, assists patient with positioning, and applies immobilization devices as necessary. Explains procedures to the parents and patients to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation.
  • Uses comprehensive understanding of related technology, crosssectional anatomy, and ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the PACS archiving system and competent in sending images to PACs as well as the verification process.
  • Schedules examinations in order to ensure smooth flow and optimal utilization of equipment. Determines appropriate sequence to conduct multiple procedures.
  • Maintains required file and records and follows up to ensure workload of designated area is completed and properly reported.
  • Maintains patient files and supplies for CT department.
  • Instructs and demonstrates computed tomography equipment operation, filming and other technical aspects for radiology students, or hospital and radiology personnel.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and techniques in the field in order to exchange expertise by reading appropriate literature, attending inservices, and the like.
  • Is proficient in obtaining a clinical history to guide the diagnostic process and provide clinical information to the Radiologists to support accurate diagnosis.
  • Takes call to meet staffing needs of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Completion of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology is required.
 

Work Experience

Related experience is preferred.
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and parents who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.

Analytical skills necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of current computerized tomography techniques and methods and knowledge of crosssectional anatomy.

Ability to concentrate and play close attention to detail when operating equipment and manipulating and reproducing images.

Must be able to walk, stand for long periods, wearing protective equipment weighing 10-15 pounds over 80% of the assigned work period, as well as lift and position patients weighing up to 150 pounds.

Licenses and Certifications

  • ARRT - Computed Tomography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
  • ARRT - Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council is required.
  • License Radiographer (142) - State of Wisconsin required.
