Job Summary

DeepBrain Academy is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and organized UI/UX Design Intern for a summer-only, unpaid internship from June through August. This internship is designed primarily as a learning and professional development experience for students interested in UI/UX design, education technology, web design, and digital product development. Interns will receive mentorship, portfolio-building opportunities, and exposure to real-world design workflows within an education-focused organization. 

This internship is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in UI/UX design, product design, web design, digital experience, education technology, or visual communication. The intern will help create wireframes, mockups, user flows, design layouts, and visual assets that make information easier to understand and digital experiences easier to use.

The UI/UX Design Intern will work with the team to improve how students, parents, and internal staff interact with DeepBrain Academy’s digital content and tools. This role requires design thinking, attention to detail, visual organization, and interest in creating clear, user-friendly experiences for an education-focused audience. Students seeking internship credit are encouraged to consult their school regarding eligibility. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with UI/UX design for website pages, landing pages, program pages, forms, and digital materials.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and layout concepts using tools such as Figma, Canva, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar platforms.
  • Support the improvement of user flows for parent inquiries, student registration, program information, event pages, and internal processes.
  • Design user-friendly layouts for desktop and mobile screens.
  • Assist with visual design elements, including icons, buttons, banners, cards, page sections, and call-to-action areas.
  • Help create or refine brand-consistent templates for web pages, social media visuals, presentations, emails, and program materials.
  • Help organize design files, image assets, brand elements, icons, screenshots, and version history.
  • Assist with improving accessibility, readability, mobile responsiveness, and visual clarity.
  • Observe and participate in cross-functional collaboration involving marketing, education, and digital product projects.
  • Participate in additional collaborative design or digital projects for educational and training purposes, depending on the intern’s interests and learning goals. 

Requirements

  • Current student or recent graduate in UI/UX design, product design, graphic design, web design, human-computer interaction, digital media, marketing, computer science, education technology, or a related field.
  • Interest in UI/UX design, web design, education technology, digital products, or user-centered design.
  • Basic experience with design tools such as Figma, Canva, Adobe XD, Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar software.
  • Ability to create simple wireframes, mockups, layouts, or visual design concepts.
  • Strong English writing, reading, and communication skills are required.
  • Mandarin proficiency is preferred.
  • Ability to work in person at the Tenafly, NJ office.
  • flexible part-time schedule of approximately 15–20 hours per week, coordinated around project timelines and educational objectives during the June–August internship period.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially for layout, spacing, typography, alignment, and visual consistency.
  • Organized, reliable, creative, and able to follow instructions.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback and revising design work.
  • Basic computer skills, including Google Workspace, file management tools, shared drives, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple learning projects and design exercises. 
  • Interest in creating digital experiences for students, parents, educators, and internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Prior internship, class project, personal project, freelance work, club experience, or portfolio project in UI/UX, web design, graphic design, or product design preferred.
  • Portfolio, sample website design, app design, landing page, wireframe, or visual design work is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with responsive design, mobile-first design, landing page structure, or basic website best practices is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, website builders, WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Experience designing for education, youth programs, tutoring, enrichment, technology, or service-based businesses is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-growing organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple design tasks and deadlines.
  • Good judgment about what design choices are clear, professional, parent-friendly, and student-appropriate.
