Summer Internship at Texas Education Agency

muThe Office of Special Populations and Student Supports (OSPSS) at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is offering summer internship positions during the nine weeks between 6/15/2026 and 8/14/2026. The internship offers valuable experience in education program management and administration at a large scale, supporting the 5.5 million K-12 students across the state of Texas.

 

Internship Descriptions

  • Monitoring, Review, and Support Data Analysis and Crosswalk Intern
    • This internship supports the TEA monitoring, review and support team by strengthening how review data is organized, compared, and analyzed across multiple review cycles and phases (Phase 1 and Phase 2). The intern will help build a structured question crosswalk (mapping questions across cycles, groups and phases), develop trend and comparative reports (including Phase 1 vs Phase 2 comparisons), and design an ongoing data system that can be updated as new reviews are completed. The work will also explore a lightweight dashboard to visualize findings and progress, plus a data entry tool/process to ensure data remains consistent, comparable, and easy to maintain over time.

  • Special Education Continuous Improvement and Academic and Behavioral Supports Communication Intern
    • This internship supports the Division of Continuous Improvement and Academic and Behavioral supports by supporting calendar and communication management as well as using data visualization tools to monitor progress, identify trends, and support decision-making. The intern will design high-quality PowerPoint presentations, tools, and resources that communicate complex information in accessible, visually engaging ways as well as additional communications tailored to diverse audiences, including ESC staff, TEA colleagues, and statewide partners.

    • 10 hours/week
  • Mental and Behavioral Health Communication Intern
    • This internship supports the Mental and Behavioral unit in the Student Supports Division by providing communication and administrative support to the unit director, creating calendar invites for meetings with Zoom links, creating meeting agendas, and drafting communication with the field.
    • Required expertise: Professional communication; past work experience or academic expertise in mental and behavioral health preferred
    • $20/hour
    • 40 hours/week
  • Special Populations Compliance Data Analysis Intern
    • This internship supports the Special Populations Compliance unit, which is responsible for leading the development of statewide state/federal compliance procedures for Title III, Part A, McKinney-Vento, Foster Care, and Military-Connected programs. The intern will analyze data reports, develop dashboards, assist with data entry, and manage logistical tasks in facilitating stakeholder meetings.
    • Required expertise: Data analysis
    • $25/hour
    • 20 hours/week

 

Eligibility:

  • The intern must be currently enrolled in or recently have completed a program at a Texas institution of higher education with a completion date no earlier than December 2025 (includes degree- and certificate-granting programs).
  • Preferred areas of study include: Data Analytics, Business Communications, Education, Educational Psychology, Business Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Law, Social Work. If you are enrolled in a program in an area of study not listed above and you are interested in this internship, please submit an application.
  • The intern must have the use of a computer during work hours.
  • The intern must be proficient in using technology required for remote team collaboration such as Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, etc.
  • The intern will submit to fingerprinting and background check and sign a non-disclosure agreement as necessary for the assigned area of work.
