Media Relations Coordinator (Intern, Part Time)

As one of the early team members of LM, You will work most closely with the founder, Olivia Ludington and other founding members of the team: Amanda Fox-Rouch and our other awesome remote contractors. About This Role

We are looking for a Media Relations Intern who is eager to hit the ground running. This is a hands-on role where you will be actively pitching journalists, building real media relationships, and contributing to live client accounts from the start. You will gain meaningful experience working alongside a founder in a fast-moving boutique environment, with direct exposure to the kind of work that typically takes years to access at a larger agency. If you have a foundation in media relations, a genuine curiosity about the startup and venture capital space, and are excited to grow your pitching skills on real accounts, we would love to hear from you.

Compensation:

  • Compensation will be paid on a monthly set rate.This set rate includes your work across anywhere from 3-7 PR accounts, supporting research for new business, LinkedIn support for clients and other work as needed.
    • Please note this is a part time, 1099 position. 
  • 90-day paid ‘trial period’ 
  • You will be judged on responsiveness (especially in a remote work environment), organization, attention to detail and professionalism
  • Opportunity for the position to turn into an account coordinator position 
  • Actual pay is subject to experience and other determining factors.
  • This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Collaborate with the team in preparing materials and memos for media interviews and events.
    • Update and manage our internal media database and curate distribution lists.
    • Play an active role in new business client calls, ensuring meticulous follow-up.
    • Assist in orchestrating events and meetings.
    • Represent the team during select media interviews.
    • Draft, edit, and fine-tune press releases and media statements.
    • Brainstorm and present innovative strategies for captivating reporters.
    • Contribute to the creation of press releases, pitch letters, and comprehensive communication plans.
    • Lead in the execution of media relations strategies, utilizing existing media connections and fostering new ones.
    • Coordinate and manage interviews, ensuring the translation of pitches into notable coverage.

 

Requirements:

  • Enrollment in a program focused on public relations, communications, international studies, or a related field.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication prowess.
  • An acute sense of attention to detail, coupled with exemplary organizational skills.
  • A team player, committed to fostering and cherishing collaborative work dynamics.
  • Authorization for employment within the United States.
  • Prior agency or in-house PR experience is required, including hands-on media relations and pitching experience… (you should have already pitched a journalist, managed a media list, and understand how a newsroom works)

You will be in the mix on real accounts. Specifically, you will:

  • Draft and refine briefing documents to prepare executives and founders for media interviews, including background research on journalists, anticipated questions, talking points, do's and don'ts, and call logistics
  • Research journalists across beats including B2B tech, venture capital, fintech, and health tech, understanding their coverage style, recent articles, and editorial focus before a single pitch goes out
  • Build, update, and maintain internal media lists and journalist databases
  • Draft press releases, pitch letters, and media statements… and iterate on them
  • Support the coordination of media interviews end-to-end: scheduling, confirming logistics, sending briefing materials, and following up post-interview
  • Help manage embargo timelines and ensure all parties are aligned on publication dates and restrictions
  • Join new business calls and support follow-up
  • Assist in developing pitch strategies tailored to specific journalists and publications
  • Support client LinkedIn and thought leadership as needed
