Communications Coordinator

Join the Dungeness River Nature Center, a vibrant nonprofit located within the 70-acre Railroad Bridge Park along the Olympic Discovery Trail. DRNC features interpretive exhibits, classrooms, trails, wildlife viewing areas, and community gathering spaces—all dedicated to inspiring understanding, respect, and stewardship of our natural and cultural resources.

In partnership with the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, and National Audubon Society, we are seeking a Communications Coordinator who is organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about storytelling and community engagement. This role is responsible for ensuring consistent, professional, and on-brand communications that support DRNC programs, events, and mission.

Schedule

Typically 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Must be available to work variable shifts as job duties require, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Essential Functions

Administrative

Assist with digital file management, organization, and administrative systems

Support maintenance of CRM databases and email/digital marketing platforms

Draft, format, and prepare various forms, memos, correspondence, and reports

Serve as DRNC webmaster, managing website maintenance and administering user roles and permissions with Executive Director approval

Serve as DRNC social media manager, overseeing user roles and permissions with Executive Director approval and reviewing, editing, and approving content submitted by delegated users

Assist with the creation of presentations for internal and external meetings

Provide support for office and rental/meeting room A/V and IT setup and maintenance

Assist in the development of grant proposals and reporting related to the Communications Coordinator scope of work

Communications

Produce, publish, and manage the monthly DRNC newsletter

Prepare and distribute news releases and press materials

Develop the annual membership report

Create and publish event promotional materials across digital channels

Develop and implement social media strategies and campaigns

Review, edit, and develop website content for accuracy and consistency

Coordinate with the Education Team on marketing materials for programs and products

Manage sponsorship program promotions for major fundraising events

Analyze engagement and visitation data to inform communications strategy

Collaborate with partner organizations on joint messaging and campaigns

Support fundraising communications and event promotion

Maintain DRNC graphic identity standards and editorial style

Develop written informational and promotional materials, including articles and press releases

Design and produce print publications and coordinate with printers

Provide photo and video documentation for marketing and outreach

Other

Support events and committee activities as assigned

Staff the DRNC front desk as needed

Serve as backup contact for visitors and volunteers

Participate in outreach events as delegated

Adhere to all Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe policies and safety standards

Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required

Four (4) years of experience and/or secondary education in communications, marketing, fundraising, or a related field

Experience performing a variety of administrative, computer-based tasks

Strong writing and editing skills

Proficiency across print, digital, and social media communication channels

Basic graphic design skills

Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills

Strong time management, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Strong commitment to customer service

Professionalism and sound judgment in public-facing interactions

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Adaptability and flexibility with changing priorities

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Willingness to learn database platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, NEON)

Valid driver’s license with ability to travel locally and regionally

Successful completion of a criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite

Knowledge of or interest in the North Olympic Peninsula and Pacific Northwest

Passion for environmental conservation and education

Experience working or volunteering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization

Background in first aid and emergency response
