GIS Summer Intern

Employment period: flexible, May through August (up to 40 hrs/week) 

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Preference for current and/or continuing student at university/college program related to Land Conservation, Natural Resource Management, Zoning, Geography, or GIS. 
  • Interpersonal/Public Relations Skills – Student may have significant public contact representing the county while working on designated projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • 2026 projects will be funded via a Next Generation 911 GIS grant; these projects may require the following:

 

  1. Basic computer skills – primarily Microsoft Office programs
  2. Ability to read a paper map and orient oneself to where they are located
  3. Ability to utilize GIS, ESRI apps, and/or survey equipment (preferred, but not required) 
  4. A means of transportation and proof of auto insurance 
  5. Applicant must be responsible, self-motivated, and resourceful 

 

 

Priority 2026 summer projects:

  • Collect sub-address information from buildings/property within Pepin County (i.e. downtown apartments, apartment complexes, mobile home parks, rental housing, short-term rental cabins, etc.)
  • Create maps for dispatch, law enforcement, fire departments, ambulance and other public safety entities 
  • Data collection, management and entry 
  • Other public safety related projects

Compensation:             $16.00 per hour
