Advocacy Outreach Coordinator Internship
Position Overview:

Step’s Foundation, Inc. is seeking a driven and community-focused Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator Intern to support youth mental health advocacy, community engagement, and program outreach efforts. This unpaid hybrid internship provides hands-on experience in building partnerships, supporting advocacy initiatives, and coordinating volunteer engagement to expand the organization’s impact.
Interns will work closely with staff, community partners, and volunteers to help plan and implement outreach strategies, organize events, and strengthen connections that support youth and families. This role is ideal for students interested in nonprofit work, public policy, community relations, and program coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and implementing outreach and advocacy strategies focused on youth and families
- Conduct research on public policy, community needs, and relevant initiatives to support advocacy efforts
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and local stakeholders
- Support the planning and execution of events, workshops, and awareness campaigns
- Recruit, onboard, and engage volunteers to support programs and outreach activities
- Coordinate volunteer participation, including scheduling, communication, and ongoing engagement
- Track outreach activities, volunteer involvement, and program outcomes for reporting purposes
- Develop outreach materials and communications aligned with organizational messaging
- Collaborate with internal teams to strengthen program visibility and community impact
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in public policy, public administration, nonprofit management, communications, social work, human services, or a related field
- Strong interest in advocacy, community engagement, and nonprofit work
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational, research, and writing abilities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Detail-oriented with the ability to track data and support reporting efforts
- Familiarity with G-Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar) or similar tools
- Experience with outreach, volunteer coordination, or community engagement is a plus
