Human Intelligence (HUMINT) Collector (MOS: 35M)

Can you read a room without saying a word? Do you understand what people mean, even when they don't say it? The Maryland National Guard is seeking perceptive, mentally agile, and morally-grounded individuals to serve in one of the most critical roles in intelligence: the Human Intelligence (HUMINT) Collector.

As a 35M, your mission is to gather information directly from people. You are the frontline of intelligence, the expert in human interaction who provides commanders with vital insights they can't get from satellites or signals. This role requires a profound understanding of human nature, unshakable integrity, and the ability to build rapport under the most challenging circumstances.

This Role is for You if You Have:

Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: You are a natural listener who can make others feel comfortable and willing to talk. You can build trust and rapport with people from any background.

High Emotional Intelligence: You are keenly aware of your own emotions and the emotions of others. You can read body language, tone, and non-verbal cues to understand the true meaning behind the words.

A Curious and Analytical Mind: You are driven by a desire to understand the "why." You can ask insightful questions, analyze motives, and piece together fragmented information to uncover the truth.

Unyielding Personal Integrity: You have a strong moral compass and an unwavering commitment to ethical conduct. You understand the immense responsibility that comes with your position.

Mental Fortitude and Resilience: You are mentally tough and can remain calm, patient, and focused in complex and often ambiguous situations.

As a HUMINT Collector, You Will:

Engage in High-Stakes Dialogue: Conduct debriefings, interviews, and interrogations in accordance with U.S. and international law to gather critical intelligence.

Analyze and Verify Information: Scrutinize information from human sources, cross-referencing it with other intelligence to determine its accuracy and reliability.

Operate as a Cultural Expert: Develop a deep understanding of different cultures, motivations, and social structures to operate effectively in any environment.

Create Vital Intelligence Reports: Synthesize the information you've gathered into clear, concise reports that directly impact mission planning and force protection.

Screen and Assess Sources: Identify and assess individuals who can provide valuable information, understanding their motivations and potential biases.

Develop an Elite, World-Class Skillset

The training you receive as a 35M is among the most advanced in the world, developing skills that are valuable in any profession:

Advanced Communication and Persuasion: Master the art and science of effective communication, active listening, and rapport-building.

Psychological Acuity: Gain a deep, practical understanding of human psychology, behavior, and motivation.

Critical Thinking and Analysis: Learn to "think on your feet," analyzing complex information in real-time to make critical decisions.

Foreign Language Aptitude: Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to learn a foreign language at the Defense Language Institute, a highly prestigious and valuable skill.

Your Future Beyond the Guard

The skills of a HUMINT Collector are in extremely high demand. This role prepares you for elite careers in both the public and private sectors, including:

Federal Law Enforcement & Intelligence Agencies: FBI, CIA, DIA, and State Department are primary employers for experienced HUMINT professionals.

Corporate and Business Intelligence: Companies hire HUMINT experts to conduct market research, competitor analysis, and due diligence.

Journalism and Research: Your ability to interview sources and uncover information is invaluable.

Human Resources and Negotiation: The deep understanding of human motivation makes you a natural fit for high-level HR, recruiting, and corporate negotiation roles.
