Organization Description
The Capital Area Urban League (CAUL) is a community-based organization dedicated to advancing economic empowerment through housing, workforce development, education, and community engagement.
The Capital Region Realtist of New York (CRRNY) is a local professional real estate trade organization affiliated with the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). CRRNY is committed to expanding homeownership, promoting wealth-building through real estate, and supporting equitable housing opportunities throughout the Capital Region.
Bethea Realty, a locally owned Albany-based brokerage, serves as an industry partner supporting practical real estate exposure, neighborhood market insight, and community revitalization efforts.
Together, these organizations are creating student internship opportunities that provide practical experience in community outreach, workforce development, housing education, program support, and stakeholder engagement.
Position Summary
The Workforce Development & Community Engagement Intern will support community-based initiatives related to housing literacy, homeownership education, workforce development, community outreach, and economic empowerment. This internship is designed for students interested in applying their academic training to real-world projects that strengthen communities and expand opportunity.
The intern will assist with outreach coordination, workshop and event support, stakeholder communications, partner engagement, volunteer coordination, and program-related administrative support. The position offers hands-on experience working across nonprofit, trade association, and community development initiatives.
Responsibilities
The intern’s responsibilities may include:
- Assist with community outreach efforts connected to housing, workforce development, and educational initiatives
- Support planning and coordination for workshops, presentations, meetings, and community events
- Help prepare outreach materials, participant communications, and program support documents
- Assist with homeownership, housing literacy, and financial education programming
- Support CAUL workforce development activities and partner engagement efforts
- Help coordinate communications with volunteers, stakeholders, community members, and partner organizations
- Maintain organized records of outreach activities, event participation, and follow-up efforts
- Provide logistical and administrative support for public-facing programs and initiatives
- Assist in strengthening awareness of available resources, opportunities, and community programs
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate interest and/or experience in several of the following areas:
- Community outreach and engagement
- Program coordination and administrative support
- Event planning and workshop support
- Volunteer and stakeholder coordination
- Public communication and relationship-building
- Housing literacy, workforce development, or community education initiatives
- Partnership support and mission-driven program work
Minimum Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s program required
- Master’s students preferred
- PhD students welcome with relevant experience or interest
- Coursework or demonstrated experience in public policy, communications, business, sociology, community development, social work, public administration, or related fields
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace
- Ability to engage professionally with diverse audiences and community stakeholders

- Comfort working in both team-based and independent settings
- Experience with spreadsheets, presentations, shared documents, and email communication
- Familiarity with Canva, Zoom, Eventbrite, CRM tools, or outreach platforms is helpful but not required
- Interest in housing, workforce development, real estate, nonprofit leadership, or economic empowerment

Work Schedule and Environment

- Hybrid arrangement with some work occurring remotely and some in Albany-based settings as needed
- Internship term expected to run 10–12 weeks, with potential alignment to the academic semester
