Economic Development Intern
General Summary
The Intern will assist with initiatives that support rural community growth, public relations efforts, and legislative outreach. This role offers hands-on experience in research, micro-lending, economic development, public policy, and corporate social responsibility. The intern will work closely with company representatives to support community engagement, research funding opportunities, and assist with public affairs initiatives.
The role can be performed remotely and from any Nex-Tech office across northwest and central Kansas.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide administrative and research support for the Revolving Loan Fund (RLF), including gathering applicant information and assisting with documentation.
• Assist in planning and attending local and regional meetings, community events, and public forums alongside company representatives.
• Research legislative issues, track relevant policies, and help prepare briefing materials for internal use.
• Support efforts to maintain relationships with local officials, business leaders, and economic development organizations.
• Help identify and research grant opportunities, assist with tracking submissions, and support basic grant-writing efforts.
• Assist in public communications via press releases, social media content, and community outreach materials.
Qualifications
• This work-study internship role is open to college students and technical college students across the Nex-Tech service footprint.
• A desire to learn more about rural communities, rural development, rural issues, and leadership.
• A desire to develop written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic ability to use social media tools.
• A desire to learn how to work independently and collaboratively in a professional setting.
