About RITA: Our Mission at RITA is to provide Ohio cities and villages with a high quality, cost effective municipal tax collection service. We currently serve nearly 400 cities and villages across the State of Ohio, collecting and distributing more than $2.5B of municipal income tax revenue annually, at an average cost in 2025 of just over one cent of every dollar collected. These income tax dollars are crucial to the provision of the public safety, infrastructure and recreational services that make these cities and villages great places to live, work and do business. About the Role: A Junior Web and Graphic Designer is an entry-level position responsible for designing and developing visually engaging and user-friendly websites while ensuring an intuitive user experience. This role involves creating graphics, layouts, and interactive elements that enhance digital interfaces.
A key focus of this role includes ensuring accessibility compliance, particularly adhering to ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards and WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) to create inclusive digital experiences for all users.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Update websites using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Create graphics, icons, and visual assets with accessibility best practices in mind.
- Create and modify accessible and responsive websites that meet ADA and WCAG guidelines, including keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and color contrast considerations.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Quality Assurance, and stakeholders throughout the development life cycle to determine technical solutions and develop and test those solutions.
- Estimates personal development levels of effort based on requirements.
- Collaborate with developers to understand coding best practices and software architecture.
- Participates in Peer Code Reviews.
- Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas. Keeps abreast of changes in the field. Research new business trends. Reads and interprets professional literature. Attends training programs, workshops and seminars as appropriate.
- Learn and apply programming concepts to transition into software development.
- Writes code that conforms to RITA’s Coding Standards.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

Physical Requirements: The individual assigned to this position must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, which include, but are not limited to the following:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer.

About You: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, or a related field or equivalent experience (2+ years of experience in graphic design and website development).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript for front-end web development.
- Experience using Web Development IDEs (VSCode, Visual Studio).
- Experience using graphic design tools (Adobe XD, Figma, Sketch, Photoshop).
- Understanding of cross-browser compatibility and responsive design principles.
- Familiarity with ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications), ADA compliance and WCAG standards for accessibility.
Soft Skills:
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in explaining design, UI/UX concepts, and accessibility principles.
- Passion for learning software development and expanding technical expertise.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications (Bonus Skills):
- Bootstrap CSS
- Familiarity with web accessibility tools (e.g., WAVE, Axe, Lighthouse).
- Basic understanding of backend development and databases.
- Knowledge of UX research methods (usability testing, surveys).
- Familiarity with version control systems (Azure DevOps, Git, GitHub).
- Experience with C# or other Object-Oriented Programming language.
