VP Of Engineering

Job Description: VP of Engineering

Job Summary

 

The VP of Engineering will be a technology leader for J. Hilburn’s digital product portfolio, IT systems and hardware & infrastructure.  Helping to accelerate J. Hilburn’s growth, this role will be responsible for architecting and executing J. Hilburn’s digital product roadmap and enabling the business to scale operationally through technology.  The VP of Engineering will be an active contributing member of the J. Hilburn leadership team.

 

Our technology stack is largely custom-built to empower our stylists while integrating into our custom manufacturing process along with a more traditional eCommerce sales platform. In this role, you would have the chance to continue to architect and develop this software, and to dream up new solutions to enable our growth.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Partners with the J. Hilburn leadership team and CTO to set strategic and tactical goals for the company

Contributions to the development of long-term digital product and technical roadmap aligned with overall corporate and investment strategy

Leads and manages implementation of complex engineering solutions across the enterprise

Ensures engineering team deliverables are high quality and sustainable, as well as delivered on-time and within budget

Establishes, communicates, and implements engineering, IT and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations

Facilitates IT security audits or investigations

Leads and provides technical leadership to internal developers, administrators, and support members as well as manage third-party resources

Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering, IT and development related to the organization’s industry

Establishes and administers the department’s budget

Challenges the status quo through intellectual curiosity and natural inquisitiveness to look beyond the obvious for continuous improvement opportunities

Manages and appropriately escalates delivery impediments, risks, issues, and changes tied to the engineering initiatives to the stakeholders

Supports on-call response to critical operational issues

Performs other duties assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

Exceptional customer-facing and problem resolution skills

Strategic thinker who finds innovative ways to facilitate team / project success and manage product risk while balancing resources for on-time deliverables

Strong knowledge of system development methodologies and code bases related to J.Hilburn systems

Ability to develop ongoing commercial acumen that translates into ongoing effectiveness of assets and programs

Ability to effectively communicate with various business stakeholders, both internal and external

Able to prioritize varying demands and effectively multi-task to meet deadlines

 

Required Education and Experience

3-5 years of leadership experience in software product engineering and IT management

Recent experience creating & deploying web/mobile apps and systems from inception to MVP (and further)

Proven ability to build high-performance engineering teams that can expertly navigate the challenges of a fast-paced, rapid-growth organization

Proven experience as a hand-on developer with knowledge of .NET languages (e.g. C#, Visual Basic .NET) / .NET Core, Native iOS development (Swift, Objective C, React Native), HTML5/CSS3

SQL Server database development experience

Familiarity with architecture styles/APIs (REST, RPC)

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field

 

Travel

Anticipated travel required for this position is minimal.
