INTERNSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Internship Program is designed to provide a structured, hands-on experience that integrates meaningful work with intentional learning and development. Interns are embedded within a team to contribute to real business priorities while gaining exposure to organizational practices, tools, and cross functional collaboration. 
 

Throughout the program, interns will engage in project-based work aligned with team goals, participate in curated professional development sessions, and receive ongoing support through regular check-ins and feedback. The program is structured to ensure clarity in expectations, consistency in experience, and accountability in both performance and development. 
 

The program also includes phases and key touchpoints such as onboarding, orientation, midpoint feedback, and final presentations or deliverables. These components are designed to support intern engagement, reinforce learning, and provide opportunities for reflection and growth. 
 

SCOPE OF INTERNSHIP

Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing and Communications Intern serves as a key member of the Marketing and Communications team, supporting the team’s efforts while learning how the team works while working with a national nonprofit focused on improving financial health for all. The intern will contribute to projects across research communications, storytelling, digital content, and event support, gaining exposure to how a communications team translates insights into compelling narratives and public engagement.

 

The intern should be available to work 40 hours a week beginning June 1st through August 28th.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Currently enrolled Undergraduate (current Sophomore or Junior) seeking a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Media Studies, Business, or Hospitality.

13 WEEK PAID INTERNSHIP

$25.00 (Hourly) 
 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders
  • Strong writing, research, and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented and dependable
  • Curious and eager to learn, willing to accept feedback
  • A growth mindset, with the ability to learn quickly, adapt to new environments, and accept feedback
  • Comfortable working across documents, spreadsheets, and online research tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Financial services industry knowledge preferred
  • Interest in communications, marketing, journalism, or nonprofit work preferred
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content formats preferred
  • Experience with tools such as Google Workspace, Canva, or project management platforms (Asana) preferred.
     

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the internship could include the following:

  • Support event planning by researching off-site venues, restaurants, and local vendors (transportation, entertainment, and production) for upcoming conferences and staff gatherings.
  • Research potential sponsors, speakers, and partner organizations aligned with Financial Health Network’s mission and events.
  • Analyze the conference and industry landscape to identify emerging trends, topics, and opportunities that can inform event programming and partnerships.
  • Monitor and summarize news and developments in financial services and financial health, translating insights into useful internal summaries.
  • Review reports and publications to identify key quotes, data points, and insights that support storytelling and content development.
  • Assist with editorial and marketing initiatives, contributing to campaigns, communications, and digital content.
  • Support storytelling by conducting background research and compiling materials for blogs, publications, and event communications.
  • Help organize and maintain content assets, project trackers, and internal resources to support team collaboration.
  • Audit the FHN website for outdated or missing content, broken links, and technical or functionality issues.
  • Support marketing operations by cleaning and segmenting contact lists in HubSpot and pulling team capacity data from Mavenlink.
  • Analyze website and digital performance metrics to help inform marketing strategy and optimization.
  • Assist with graphic design tasks, including social media graphics, stock image selection, and related visual assets.
  • Assist with video production, including social media video creation, logging and transcription, and YouTube channel cleanup.
