Position Overview
The Copy Editor’s most significant responsibility is editing and fact-checking content. They use their attention to detail and their expert knowledge of style guides to contribute to well-written and error-free content. Their job is to make sure they fact-check statements, correct typos and grammatical errors, and mark unnecessary or confusing passages for the writer to revise. They may also provide suggestions on how to improve the clarity of a particular passage or statement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field.
- Or a master's degree in a theological field with a strong knowledge of the English language.
- Strong knowledge of the English language- understanding and ability to correct grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation issues.
- Familiarity with biblical texts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of Adobe InCopy is preferred. However, we will train.

- The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Baptist doctrine is preferred.
- The ability to be detail-oriented.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.
- Help revise/update the SSPB style guide (as needed) to govern how content is created.
- Arrange page layouts to include written content in Word to transition to InCopy/InDesign.
- Help train new editorial team members about the company’s content creation process.
- Fact-check all content.
- Check content against the SSPB style guide and Chicago Style.
Compensation will be dependent upon experience and skill level. This is a full-time position.
