Environmental Intern
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Assist the Environmental Program Coordinator to: Perform technical/professional work in the organization and implementation of stormwater, wellhead protection, recycling, and environmental outreach programs. The intern will gain experience both in the office and in the field in a variety of environmental areas overseen by the City’s Environmental Division. This seasonal position offers flexible, part-time scheduling at approximately 20 hours per week. Work is typically performed during normal business hours (Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) with an occasional weekend or evening required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Under general supervision by the Environmental Program Coordinator and Environmental and Storm Service Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- Prepare and deliver educational information regarding environmental issues and regulatory programs to school, citizen, business, and employee groups.
- Assist with stormwater permit compliance involving outfall and inlet monitoring and storm pond inspections.
- Help coordinate community events and manage volunteers.
- Assist with grant-related tree planting, monitoring and maintenance.
- Develop social media content for environmental events and programming.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Keyboarding; reading; writing; contact with general public; using the telephone; lifting up to 50 lbs., working in rough terrain or in inclement weather conditions.
- Exhibit a level of proficiency using computers and general understanding of various software applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions to this position.
- Applicant must have some weekend availability for events.
