Equipment Operator

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR:

JOB SUMMARY: The equipment operator, under supervision of the Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent or foreman, performs work involving the use of large equipment, including tractors, loaders, trenchers, backhoes, trucks, and other maintenance equipment.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Mow greens, tees, fairways and roughs with turf mowers.
• Operate all types of equipment; turf vac, skip-loader, aerifiers, sprayers.
• May operate smaller equipment, both riding and non-riding, as directed by Superintendent.
• Ensure that the equipment systems are working properly; refill fuel and oil daily; clean equipment daily; and report equipment problems or failures to the Superintendent or the Mechanic immediately.
• Provide basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed by the Mechanic or Superintendent and return equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility.
• Apply fertilizer as directed. 

• May perform duties from other positions as needed or assigned to maintain proper operations of the resort property. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of tractors and other motorized equipment. Must hold appropriate license/certification for the specialized work to be done. 

• Ability to follow oral and written directions.

• Knowledge of manual and electrical hand tools. 

• Ability to work unsupervised on a variety of job tasks. 

• Organization, attention to detail, a positive attitude and willingness to learn are musts for this position. 

• Ability to work as part of a team to safely and efficiently complete assigned tasks and provide tournament-level playing conditions. 

• Experience in the resort/hospitality industry helpful. 

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS 

• Valid Driver’s License.

• Participation in ongoing training and education.
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS 

• Willing and available (and be punctual) for early morning shifts. 

• Must be available to work weekends and some holidays. 

• Must be able to lift and stack objects up to 75 pounds occasionally and frequently exert 10 to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects. 

* Work involves frequent periods of standing and walking, which may include climbing ladders and staircases. 

• Work involves stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting/turning and reaching, bending at the waist for prolonged period of time. 

• Must be able to perceive the nature of sound, utilize near and far vision, depth perception, provide oral information, and possess the manual dexterity to handle and work with various materials and objects which are essential aspects of this position. 

• Outdoor work environment with exposure to weather extremes.
