Golf Junior Intern

Position Title: Golf Fairfax Junior Tournament Series Internship 

Location: Pinecrest Golf Course, 6600 Little River Turnpike, Alexandria, VA 22312 

Hours: Summer Session between 16-30 hours per week. Occasional weekend shifts required 

Salary: Starting at $16.50 per hour  

 

Overview: The Golf Fairfax Junior Tournament Series (GFJTS) is a series created to give Middle School and High School junior golfers tournament experience to get them ready for the upcoming High School Golf Tryouts and exposure to college golf coaches. Juniors between the ages of 10-18 will compete in up to 5 of 9 available tournaments, withing their age groups, to earn points towards qualifying for the Series Championship. At the Series Championship, Series Champions will be crowned for each age group based on points earned through all events played. 

 

Golf Fairfax consists of 8 public golf courses (Four 18-Hole Championship, One 18-Hole Par 3, Two 9-Hole Executive and One 9-Hole Par 3 courses) at 7 facilities throughout Fairfax County. All courses within Golf Fairfax are accessible to all and enjoyable for all players and challenging for the advanced golfers. 

 

Duties: 

  • Assist Co-Tournament Directors with running Golf Fairfax Junior Tournament Series tournaments. Duties will include: 
  • Series preparation. 
  • Tournament preparation. 
  • Tournament setup. 
  • Tournament registration. 
  • Tournament scoring. 
  • Tournament wrap-up. 
  • Management of pace of play. 
  • Assist in Tournament and Series communications (emails, notices, social media). 
  • Any other duties assigned by the Co-Tournament Directors. 

 

Assisting in golf course operations at various Fairfax County Golf Courses as needed, to include: 

  • Perform sale transactions for customers in the clubhouse operation and snack bar operation 
  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly, professional manner 
  • Perform basic food service duties in the snack bar 
  • Booking and managing tee times using reservation software 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Professional demeanor and strong work ethic 
  • Willingness to learn about running golf tournaments  
  • Ability to work in a team environment  
  • Knowledge of Golf Genius Tournament Software (preferred, but not required) 
  • Ability to work long days during Tournament days 
  • Ability to transport yourself and series-related equipment to tournament locations 
  • Knowledge of USGA Rules of Golf (preferred, but not required) 
  • PGA Apprentice (preferred, but not required) 
  • Tournament experience (both playing and running) (preferred, but not required)
