Vertical Drama Screenwriter

Job Overview

As an in-house screenwriter at FlareFlow, your core responsibility is to identify high-potential source material (micro dramas and web novels) and transform them into commercially compelling scripts. This role requires more than writing ability — it demands strong adaptation instincts, structural analysis skills, and the ability to engineer addictive storytelling for short-form platforms. We welcome candidates with experience in micro dramas or web novel writing who are highly adaptable, fast learners, and genuinely passionate about the micro drama industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Watch Chinese and English vertical micro dramas or read English web novels to deeply understand their themes, pacing, structure, and emotional mechanics.
  • Develop localized adaptation strategies that translate source material into high-retention, platform-ready micro drama scripts.
  • Analyze successful case studies and apply critical thinking to solve structural and narrative challenges during adaptation.
  • Bridge data insights and creative decisions — remain highly sensitive to performance metrics and continuously optimize story direction based on data feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with production and creative teams to ensure scalable and commercially viable storytelling.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of screenwriting experience in Romance and Drama genres.
  • Strong instinct for fast pacing, cliffhanger construction, and serialized storytelling.
  • Basic understanding of micro drama dynamics and social media audience psychology.
  • Comfortable writing adult romance/drama, including emotionally intense or sensitive themes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong passion for the micro drama industry and evolving short-form storytelling trends.
  • Open-minded, highly adaptable, and capable of rapid learning.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competitive market pressure.
  • Self-driven and motivated to continuously challenge creative limits.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese is a strong plus.
