Location: Remote (with optional travel to Madison, WI in August 2026)

Compensation: $2,500 stipend + coverage of travel fees to the 2026 Conference

About OWAA: The Outdoor Writers Association of America is one of the nation’s oldest and largest associations for outdoor communicators—writers, photographers, editors, filmmakers, podcasters, and broadcasters. In 2027, OWAA celebrates its 100th anniversary, and we’re building a dynamic, multi-platform digital campaign to mark this historic year.

We’re seeking a creative, organized, and social media–savvy intern to help drive our milestone 100th anniversary campaign from April through September.

About the role:

This internship will focus on planning, launching, and building the foundation of OWAA’s 100th anniversary social media presence, conference excitement, and membership sign-ups.

In terms of time commitment, we’re looking for the following:

  • 2-4 trending reels for Instagram per week, and 1-3 Instagram posts per week
  • 4-5 public-facing Facebook Posts per week (The content can be the same for Instagram Posts, but it should be tailored to the different platforms.) 
  • 1-2 LinkedIn posts per week
  • Instagram/Facebook Stories (Doesn’t have to be every day, but should be frequent)

Role Responsibilities

Working closely with the OWAA Executive Director, you will:

  • Help kick off OWAA’s 100-year anniversary campaign, including historical facts, member stories, and multimedia content.
  • Assist in developing and executing strategies to:
    • Promote OWAA membership
    • Increase audience engagement
    • Boost registration for the 100th Anniversary Conference in Madison
  • Manage and tailor content for: Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. (Knowledge of Substack preferred but not required.)
  • Draft captions, schedule posts, and monitor analytics.
  • Assist with short-form video editing (Reels, TikTok-style clips for IG/FB).
  • Help maintain an organized content library (Google Drive).
  • Collaborate with OWAA writers, photographers, and members to source compelling material.
  • Tag pertinent destinations, sponsors, hosts and other corporate partners

Who We’re Looking For

  • Students studying communications, journalism, public relations, digital media, marketing, or related fields.
  • Someone who is passionate about the outdoors and wants experience in outdoor media
  • Strong writing/editing skills 
  • Familiarity with AP Style
  • Strong familiarity with major social media platforms and keen interest in trends.
  • Self-starters who are comfortable working remotely and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with Canva or video editing tools is a plus.
