Communications, Events, and Media Intern

The Center for the Art of East Asia (CAEA) seeks a Communications, Events, and Media Intern to support CAEA-organized exhibitions, public programs, digital initiatives, and scholarly activities. This position is ideal for a student interested in museum studies, art history, arts administration, digital humanities, and Asian art and culture more broadly. 

Working closely with CAEA staff, the intern will contribute to the Center’s communications strategy, event production, digital media presence, and administrative workflows. The role combines creative media production with hands-on event coordination and organizational support.

 

Key Responsibilities

Communications & Media

  • Design and distribute print and digital publicity materials, including event posters, newsletters, email blasts, and promotional graphics.
  • Draft and schedule social media posts highlighting CAEA programs, exhibitions, faculty research, and student accomplishments.
  • Edit and upload event recordings to CAEA’s YouTube channel.
  • Edit event photography for social media, newsletters, and digital archives.
  • Support communications related to CAEA’s digital initiatives, including the Dispersed Chinese Art Digitization Project (DCADP) and other online platforms.
  • Help develop and expand CAEA’s online presence on Chinese-language social media platforms (e.g., WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu), increasing the Center’s visibility among global Chinese-speaking audiences.

Events & Production Support

  • Provide logistical support for in-person and virtual events (set-up, A/V coordination, reception support, clean-up).
  • Assist with multimedia production for public programs, artist talks, and symposia.
  • Coordinate with on-campus and off-campus partners to promote and co-sponsor events.
  • Support documentation of programs through photography and video.

Administrative & Research Support

  • Support archival organization and digital file management.
  • Conduct light research to support exhibitions and public programs.
  • Assist with general office operations as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube).
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Basic video editing experience (Premiere, Final Cut, iMovie, or similar).
  • Familiarity with Chinese-language social media platforms (WeChat, Xiaohongshu) and interest in cross-cultural digital outreach strongly preferred.
  • Interest in Asian art, contemporary art, museums, or digital humanities.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative academic environment.
