Plant Content Creator

The gig

We're Mother Soil, a premium living soil company based in Seattle. Our soil is brewed for 2+ months and packed with 800+ species of beneficial microbes — it's basically a complete plant care system in a bag. Our customers are obsessed with it, and we need someone to help show why.

We're looking for a UW student who loves plants and is comfortable on camera to run side-by-side growth comparisons — Mother Soil vs. standard potting mix — and document the results on video.

What you'd do

  • Pot 5–10 popular houseplants (monsteras, pothos, philodendrons, alocasias, fiddle leaf figs, etc.) in Mother Soil vs. a standard big box store soil
  • Film on-camera check-ins at regular intervals (Day 1, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months)
  • Deliver short (30–90 second) videos that tell the full story: here's the plant before, here's what I did, here's what happened
  • Stagger new plants over time so we always have fresh content in the pipeline

Who you are

  • Genuinely obsessed with plants — you already have a collection and know your stuff
  • Comfortable and natural on camera — you can talk about plants without sounding scripted
  • Organized and self-directed — you'll be managing multiple plants on different growth timelines and filming on a schedule. Nobody's going to chase you down — you own the process
  • Basic video skills — you don't need to be a film student, but you know how to frame a shot, get decent lighting, and do simple edits (CapCut, iMovie, etc.)
  • Reliable — plants don't wait. If you miss a 2-week check-in, that content window is gone
  • Have space to run the experiments — a well-lit area where you can keep 5–10+ plants going simultaneously
  • Horticulture, botany, or environmental science background preferred but not required — passion matters more

What we provide

  • $400–500/month retainer for plant care + filming
  • Bonus for finished videos used in our marketing
  • All the Mother Soil you need (free)
  • Competitor soil and plants (provided or reimbursed)
  • Access to our Chief Soil Officer (yes, that's a real title) for any plant questions

Why this is cool

You get paid to grow plants, talk about plants, and watch them thrive. Your content will be used in real ads seen by thousands of plant lovers. And you'll have unlimited access to some of the best soil on the market.

To apply

Send us:

  1. A quick intro — who you are, what you study, and why you love plants
  2. A photo or video of your plant collection
  3. A short clip of you talking about one of your plants on camera (phone quality is totally fine — we just want to see your vibe)
