Music Journalism Intern

Musicade Spring 2026 Internship Program

Duration: Mid-March 2026 – End of May 2026
Location: Remote
Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month

Stipend: $750 total
Expected Output: 2–4 visual editorial packages per month

Musicade is building infrastructure for independent artists. As the music industry evolves through lawsuits, ownership debates, streaming reforms, and platform disruption, we are launching a Musicade News & Culture vertical focused on investigative music journalism and cultural accountability.

This internship is designed for students who care about music, research, fairness in creative industries, and storytelling.

This is a resume-building opportunity with real publishing experience and campaign integration.

Previous Musicade interns have gone on to roles and internships at record labels, event production companies, marketing agencies, and technology companies.

Music Journalism Intern (News & Research)

Overview

We are looking for journalism interns who love research, justice, and music culture. You will track emerging stories in the music industry and translate them into compelling, digestible content for independent artists.

This is not celebrity gossip writing.

This is investigative, ecosystem-focused music journalism.

What You’ll Do

• Monitor trending music industry news (lawsuits, legislation, ownership debates, platform shifts)
• Help Musicade become a trusted voice in music infrastructure news

Ideal Candidate

• Journalism, Media, Communications, or Music Business student
• Passion for research and fairness in creative industries
• Strong writing voice and curiosity
• Loves digging into court filings, data, trends, and policies
• Has an “ear to the ground” mindset

Responsibilities

• Research music industry legal cases, policy shifts, and artist rights developments
• Analyze ongoing topics such as litigation, streaming royalty reform, AI copyright disputes, independent ownership movements
• Produce structured 800–1,200 word editorial articles
• Participate in mentorship sessions and workshops
• Revise work based on documented feedback cycles
• Collaborate with a Graphic Designer intern for visual storytelling

Required Skills

• Strong research and analytical ability
• Clear and structured writing
• Ability to interpret legal or policy information
• Familiarity with journalistic standards
• Attention to detail and source citation

Minimum Requirements

• Current undergraduate or graduate student in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Music Business, or related field
• Writing sample required
• Ability to commit through end of May
• Reliable communication and deadline accountability
