Associate Project Manager (Contract)

Associate Project Manager (Game Development – Contract Role)

Type: Independent Contractor

Compensation: Small flat fee + limited royalty participation (milestone and/or time-based vesting)

Location: Remote (Mohawk Valley / Central NY preferred but not required)

NOTE: Date range and duration of contract are merely an example, and are negotiable.

About This Opportunity

Cyborg Interactive is seeking a highly organized, execution-focused Associate Project Manager to help drive active indie game projects toward completion.

This is not an assistant role.

You will help structure sprints, track deliverables, identify risks early, and maintain forward momentum across a small but serious development team.

This role is ideal for a graduating senior or early-career professional in software, business, game development, or project management who wants real ownership and accountability inside a working studio environment.

Responsibilities

  • Break high-level game features into actionable tasks
  • Organize and manage sprint cycles
  • Maintain task boards and milestone tracking
  • Track progress and proactively flag blockers
  • Facilitate or co-lead weekly project check-ins
  • Monitor scope and prevent feature creep
  • Maintain documentation and roadmap clarity

This role focuses on coordination and execution. Coding or design contributions are optional but not required.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated reliability and follow-through
  • Comfortable leading meetings and keeping teams aligned
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum concepts (formal certification not required)
  • Background in:
    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Business / Entrepreneurship
    • Game Development
    • Project Management
    • Or related fields

You do not need years of experience — but you must be disciplined, proactive, and comfortable holding peers accountable.

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct leadership experience on a commercial indie project
  • Exposure to real production cycles and milestone planning
  • Experience working with developers, designers, and creatives
  • A shipped title on your professional record
  • Royalty participation in project profits (subject to vesting)

This is hands-on execution in a real production environment — not an observational internship.

Compensation Structure

  • Fixed monthly stipend for a 4-month contract term, determined by scope and experience.
  • Limited royalty participation (milestone-based vesting)
  • Independent contractor agreement
  • No guaranteed salary or benefits

Important

We are a lean studio. Reliability matters.

If you commit to a deliverable, it needs to be tracked, communicated, and executed.

In return, you gain meaningful leadership experience and participation in a commercial release.
