RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide analysis in the development and communication of Company positions on public policy issues under moderate guidance.
  • Conduct policy research to develop written briefs and filings for regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain broad knowledge of legislative, economic, and environmental regulatory processes and stakeholder positions, and identify how issues impact the Company.
  • Assess the impact of emerging and proposed regulation and legislation, develop communications for governmental and regulatory bodies, help organize and implement stakeholder engagement processes, represent the Company in state regulatory processes, and provide information for internal and external stakeholders about policy-related issues.
  • Analyze possible solutions using standard procedures and solve a range of complex problems.
  • Manage multiple projects and deliverables with firm deadlines.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to build and maintain positive working relationships.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
    • Preferably in political science, public policy, business management, or another relevant academic discipline.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Four or more years of experience in state or federal government, or equivalent experience working with state or federal governmental processes. Other proven professional experience demonstrating mastery of the tasks associated with this position may be substituted for direct governmental affairs experience.
    • A graduate-level degree in political science, public policy, business management, or a related field may be considered as equivalent to up to one year of required work experience.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be willing to travel to attend stakeholder meetings, regulatory or legislative proceedings or other events. Locations could be within the Company’s service territory, where Company assets are located or where government agencies are located.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communications skills to build and maintain positive working relationships and the ability to work with a wide variety of people.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $67,000 - $84,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
