UX/UI Design Intern (Summer 2026) – Local Hero

Are you looking for a hands-on internship where you can gain real-world UX/UI Design experience working on real product features?

Local Hero is passionate about developing the next generation of technology professionals through immersive, high-impact internship programs. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented UX/UI Design Intern to join our team for Summer 2026.

This paid internship is full-time (5 days per week) during the summer and is onsite at our Boulder, CO office. Candidates must have reliable transportation to the Boulder office. Please do not apply if you are not local to Colorado and within commuting distance of Boulder or have plans to be in Boulder over the summer- relocation/housing assistance is not provided.

A Day in the Life:

As a UX/UI Design Intern, you will gain valuable, marketable skills by engaging in and assisting with:

Designing and prototyping UI/UX improvements for Local Hero’s Leads & Calls features using modern design tools

Collaborating with engineering and product teams to translate requirements into usable, effective interfaces

Participating in sprint planning and design reviews

Conducting usability testing and iterating on designs based on feedback

Supporting cross-team UI/UX initiatives and assisting with documentation and design system updates

Attending cross-department meetings, design reviews, and sprint demos to gain exposure to real-world product development workflows

You will contribute meaningfully to real product initiatives while learning how product, design, engineering, and delivery work together in a professional environment.

Primary Internship Project:

The UX/UI Design Intern will lead UI/UX design and prototyping for upcoming Leads & Calls feature releases within Local Hero. This includes:

Improving user experience across key advertiser and publisher workflows

Standardizing UI patterns across products

Accelerating delivery of new features through rapid prototyping

Collaborating closely with engineering to support implementation accuracy

Supporting usability testing during development and iterating based on findings

Documenting completed designs to support future scalability and consistency

This project provides exposure to real-world product workflows, including sprint cycles, cross-functional collaboration, design reviews, usability testing, and implementation support.

The successful candidate will:

Be a junior or senior pursuing a degree in UX/UI Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, or a related field

Have experience creating wireframes, user flows, and UI mockups

Be comfortable building interactive prototypes

Demonstrate strong attention to detail and ability to create clean, usable interfaces

Communicate progress clearly, ask questions, and work collaboratively

Be comfortable presenting design concepts and incorporating stakeholder feedback

What Will Get Our Attention:

Experience with Figma (or similar tools) for UI design and prototyping

Experience designing for web-based platforms or SaaS products

Familiarity with usability testing practices and basic UX research methods

Understanding of design systems and reusable UI components

A portfolio of design work (class projects acceptable)

Strong interest in how UX/UI impacts business outcomes and product performance
