POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Manager of Educational IT, the Network Administrator I is responsible for a variety of network protocols, settings, configurations and maintenance of software and hardware involved in the LAN / WAN operations of various parishes and schools. This position is also responsible for troubleshooting network issues and takes initiative for the network security and systems upgrades. The School Network Administrator I will conduct systems analysis and keep systems current with changing technologies. This position will also, in conjunction with the Manager of Educational IT, manage the coordination of communication and support between the user community and the technical and operational functions of IT in relationship to all network functions. Serves as a key technical resource, providing advice, training, and technical support for various projects. Works closely with professional technical staff in IT to evaluate current systems and make decisions on future development.

 This includes design, configuration, installation planning, troubleshooting, usage monitoring and remote connectivity of all networks, security and telecom equipment. Manages the tickets within the support ticketing system, runs diagnostic programs, isolates problems, and determines and implements solutions. Evaluates new products and/or services, maintains appropriate security levels and file management policies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair user devices, telecommunication and network equipment, switches, UPS, wiring and related voice and data communication systems.
  • Provide networking support for each location’s security and telecommunication systems as appropriate.
  • Oversee and provide initial diagnostics of remote communications systems, including WAN data communication lines and related premise equipment, DID lines and communications software. Ensure preparation of regular PBX/VoIP and other communication systems utilization and performance reporting as needed.
  • Support and maintain all efforts related to files, records, and other information to support telecommunication and mobile system activities, this includes managing and maintaining the administration of the Mobile Device Management within JAMF, Mosyle and GoGuardian Management platforms.
  • Evaluate and replace multi-functional printers, other office equipment and related equipment as necessary. Assist with installation and implementation of multi-function business equipment connected to the network including creation of printer queues and maintaining print servers.
  • Design, operate and maintain agencies WAN\LAN, track significant problems, monitor performance, and perform upgrades to hardware and software as required. Administer the operation of all network services according to policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve WAN\LAN performance, connectivity, and related network problems. Monitor system logs and activity on all servers; Replace defective user devices, network or server hardware as necessary. Work independently to support all network devices providing connection services for all locations supported.
  • Install, manage, and administer critical software, which may contain confidential information and other relevant data. 
  • Maintain DNS, SMTP, DHCP, domain controllers, active directory applications, printing, mail, web servers and file servers.
  • Manage account lifecycle administration across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 (Entra ID/Azure AD/Office 365), Windows, and macOS, including provisioning, changes, and deprovisioning.  Maintain the integrity, security, and accuracy of user identities, access, and associated data.
  • Research new technologies and present recommendations on major hardware and software purchases for the parish and schools. Install and test software updates and patches. Update software and hardware inventory and document changes. Develop, implement, and maintain disaster recovery procedures for both physical and virtual systems when needed.
  • Work closely with others within the parish and schools to define metrics which are used to measure and communicate the efficiently and effectiveness of Google, macOS or Windows operating environment. Train onsite technical IT staff on the system at the building level to follow proper operating procedures necessary to maintain the integrity of the network.
  • Maintain inventory of all user devices, network equipment and servers through standard tracking system within the Help Desk ticket tracking system.
  • Maintain documentation regarding network configurations, operating procedures, and service records relating to user devices, network hardware and software. Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future expansion.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • LAN/WAN Environment.
  • Switches, routers, firewalls, and other network infrastructure.
  • Strong working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft 365/Office 365 and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and Google Workspace.
  • Phone system skills with VoIP and old analog systems.
  • Network security, TCP/IP / DHCP / DNS.
  • Fault tolerance and disaster recovery design and documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with hardware and software.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in support of personal computer, printers (including MFP’s) mobile device hardware, including repairs and diagnostics.
  • Strong skills with managing MDM and EndPoint Management platforms.
  • Troubleshooting techniques for simple to complex hardware and software systems.
  • Detailed record keeping techniques.
  • Configuration techniques including documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of data telecommunications.
  • Strong skills in Google Apps, Google Education, 365 and 365 for Education.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Background in and/or knowledge of the Catholic Church with a demonstrated commitment to the mission and teachings of the Church.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in computer science required; however, two additional years of directly relevant experience or IT related certifications may be considered in lieu of the required degree.
  • Current valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required. 
  • Experience in Information Technology plus two years’ experience in the repair and installation of personal computers, printers, along with other computer/network related equipment preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Requires sitting for most of the work duration; involves typing and other repetitive movement.
  • Employee will be expected to work normal office hours.
  • Maintenance functions are performed after building operating hours.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regular travel throughout the 23 counties of Northeast Nebraska that make up the Archdiocese of Omaha.
