Who We Are

Beneath The Rust is a community storytelling brand focused on recovery, belonging, and real life in small-town and regional America. We document real people, real places, and real stories — especially in towns that don’t usually get the mic.

We’re looking for a content creator who can help us scale what we’re already doing: more stories, more consistency, more presence in the region.

This is a hybrid videography + editing role. You’ll be in the field some days and editing on others. A big part of this job is getting out into towns, talking to people, and turning those moments into short-form content for social.

You’ll have real responsibility and creative input. We aim to be mostly hands-off once you’re onboarded.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Traveling throughout the tri-state region to capture stories
  • Conducting in-market interviews in mill towns and small communities
  • Talking with people about life, work, addiction, recovery, pride, and being overlooked
  • Capturing
    • A film photo of each person interviewed (for IG)
    • Strong photos of towns, landscapes, and everyday life
    • Video footage that reflects the same — raw, honest, grounded
    • Finding unique stories from each town and helping us tell them
      (Think: The Deer Hunter x Mingo Junction)
  • Editing short-form content for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Pitching story ideas, people, and locations
  • Editing & Series Work
  • Using our existing templates to plug-and-play efficiently
  • Helping build and expand ongoing content series
  • Editing deeper-dive pieces that highlight “star people” from these places
    (ex: notable figures connected to specific towns)
  • Pulling from existing footage (YouTube clips, archives, etc.) when appropriate
  • Focus is on recognition and storytelling — not full ground-up production every time
    (Forgotten Seasons is a good reference for tone)

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Comfortable traveling locally and talking to strangers
  • Strong shooting and editing skills (color grading is a plus)
  • Understands how social content performs
  • Curious, observant, and respectful with people’s stories
  • Can work independently and meet deadlines
  • Has their own camera and audio equipment
  • Someone we can trust with people, stories, and the brand

Bonus

  • Interested in behind-the-scenes content
  • Curious about longer-form or film projects
  • Pittsburgh sports fan (optional, but appreciated)
