Social Media Intern
SUMMARY
John Ball Zoo is looking for a creative and energetic individual who is passionate about social media to join the Marketing team for the summer. The Social Media Intern will work on a variety of projects that include digital storytelling, and communications. Experience a fast-paced, collaborative, and creative environment working with others on the marketing team and multiple other zoo departments. Grow your skills in organization, balancing projects, and visual storytelling. Get a chance to explore the zoo and its inhabitants and learn how to effectively translate that knowledge into enhancing the guest experience.
This is a paid position with 40 hours working 5 days a week. Housing is not provided but can be arranged by the intern at a local university, find more information at https://www.gvsu.edu/internhousing/.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Creating content to be used in marketing including written, photo, and video content.
- Attending and capturing photo and video content of special events hosted at John Ball Zoo with occasional weekends & nights.
- Research and report on social media trends
- Draft social media posts for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok
- Review and engage with customer reviews through social platforms
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled in a relevant college program.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact positively and appropriately with coworkers, supervisors, managers, and members of the public with a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Working knowledge with photo editing software (Adobe Creative Suite, Lightroom & Photoshop)
REQUIRED SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS
- Knowledge and experience with social media including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn
- Aware of social media trends and technology
- Knowledge and experience with photo editing software (Lightroom and Photoshop)
- Knowledge and experience with video editing software (preferably Premiere and CapCut)
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED.
- Junior or senior college status (preferred) pursuing a degree in relevant college major Communications, Advertising/Public Relations, Marketing, etc.

- Understand how a marketing department operates within a non-profit

- Ability to write and create content in a branded voice.
- Ability to capture and edit marketing quality content.
- Understand how to use a project management system for a collaborative workspace.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- l work in various environments both inside and outside and may occasionally be exposed to inclement weather, pollen, mold, dust, dirt, and other airborne contaminants.
