Fall 2026 Media Specialist WLS Level 4

I.     WLS Level: 4

 

II.    Description Of Duties For This Position:

  1. Make make all necessary changes to the Theatre Department’s website, including the on-line ticketing function and promotion.
  2. Oversee the social media accounts of the Theatre Department (not limited to Facebook, Instagram, the YouTube media channel, and SnapChat), creating content, and ensuring the existing content is updated and relevant to the co-curricular activities of the Department. 
  3. Design all relevant print media for the Theatre Productions, including, but not limited to, programs, posters, and post-cards.  In doing so, the Media Specialist will be the point of contact for Printing Services and will work directly with the Chair of Theatre and/or Director of Theatre in creating content, accounts, etc.  
  4. Will participate as a member, and an integral part, of the Production Team for all Theatre Productions.
  5. Attend all production meetings, necessary technical and dress rehearsals and will ensure that the over-arching concept of the production is reflected in the media content.  
  6. Supervision and training of student volunteers or 0-5 labor students on media shoots and film projects.  This includes:
    1. Use of Video Camera
    2. Training on editing software
    3. Assistance with off-site photo and film shoots; 
  7. When necessary, they will be trained in the box office functions so as to fill any scheduling gaps. They will work with the Box Office Manager to schedule and verify their time.  
  8. Work closely with the Chair of the Department and/or the Director of Theatre in creating media events connected to the co-curricular production program and in the marketing of the academic successes and milestones of the Theatre Department and Berea College Theatre. 
  9. Perform any related activities as needed as a member of the production team.  

 

 

III. Learning Opportunities For This Position:

  1. Learning and mastering the specific desk-top publishing software that is used for print media. 
  2. Creating original media elements for the Productions and the Department; it is expected these elements will be used for the Media Associate’s personal portfolio of creative design and experience.  
  3. Oral and written communication skills with fellow students, and faculty and staff.  
  4. Communication with visiting artists, offering solutions to specific media needs and challenges. 
  5. Learning the ways in which traditional and social media can enhance the performance experience
  6. Being able to transfer these creation and technical skills to other areas media production 

 

 

 

IV.  Qualifications Needed For This Position:

  1. Knowledge of the social media outlets, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and SnapChat.  
  2. Knowledge of web site software used to create the Department’s website. 
  3. A desire to participate fully in a creative and technical environment;
  4. Ability to communicate orally and in writing;
  5. Ability to meet print and media deadlines; 
  6. Must be at least a Sophomore and experience/knowledge of social and traditional media;
  7. Ability to work independently 
  8. Knowledge of the production practices of the Theatre Department
  9. Have a working knowledge of the Creative Suite for print media.
