Digital Archiving & Studio Art Intern - Cleveland Museum of Art

Digital Archiving & Studio Art intern 

The Community Arts Center at the Cleveland Museum of Art seeks an intern to assist the CAC Studio Go team in the facilitation of studio art programs for members of the Cleveland community and in the completion of a digital cataloguing project of past Studio Go programs. The digital catalogue project will involve collecting, organizing, and standardizing all existing art activity programs used by Studio Go into a single, well-structured data file. This file will serve as both a printable reference guide and an online-accessible resource for CAC managers and studio assistants. The final product will improve consistency, accessibility, and long-term usability of the department’s art programming. The goals of this project are to:  

  • Create a centralized archive of all art activity programs 
  • Standardize how activities are described and documented 
  • Improve accessibility and adaptability of programs for diverse audiences 
  • Support future outreach, education, and program planning 
  • Preserve institutional knowledge through clear documentation and images 

As a Studio Go assistant, the intern will have the opportunity to assist in several areas of the Community Arts Center and Studio Go mobile art programs. Programs include Studio Go, our mobile arts studio; open studios, workshops, and school programs at the Community Arts Center; and signature events such as Parade the Circle. This role supports the museum’s strategic priorities of engaging audiences of all ages in collection-based arts experiences.  

During the internship, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to develop or learn skills in the following areas.  

Arts Program Documentation & Cataloging 

  • How to collect, organize, and standardize large amounts of program content. 
  • Implementing best practices for developing a centralized and accessible digital archive. 
  • Learning methods for preserving institutional knowledge. 
  • Learning how documentation supports long-term planning and future outreach. 

Information Management 

  • Structuring information into a clean, consistent data file. 
  • Developing materials adaptable for both print and digital formats 
  • Ensuring educational materials are accessible and user-friendly 

Community Arts Education 

  • How community-based art programs are designed and delivered. 
  • Understanding the relationship between art museum collection and hands-on art activities. 
  • Translating educational goals into practical, age-appropriate art experiences 

Teaching & Facilitation Skills 

  • Public speaking. 
  • Explaining art concepts in simple, accessible ways. 
  • Practicing inclusive facilitation for participants with varied skill levels, learning styles, and abilities. 
  • Giving clear instructions on studio art activity and encouraging feedback. 
  • Creative Skills 
  • Learn basic art making practices. 
  • Creative problem-solving  
  • Applying basic design thinking and visual problem-solving 

Mobile Studio Operations 

  • Understanding logistics of mobile studio art program. 
  • How to set up and break down art workshops for a variety of offsite spaces and events. 
  • Ensuring studio spaces and art materials are organized, well-stocked, and functional. 

Professional Communication 

  • Developing skills and confidence in leading others. 
  • Communicating with the public in a friendly, professional manner. 

Teamwork Skills 

  • How to work effectively with other staff and community members. 
  • Collaborating creatively with colleagues to design activities and solve challenges. 

Eligibility Requirements  

  • Be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree.  
  • You must be a Junior, or Senior as of January 2026.   
  • Reside or attend college within Cleveland or the boundary established by the Inner Ring Suburbs.   
  • Have a Student Aid Index of up to $10,000 

Additional Eligibility Requirements 

  • Current student majoring in Art, Art Education, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Education, or Studio Art 
  • Strong interest in arts education, community art, or outreach programming 
  • Ability to organize information clearly and consistently 
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • Basic writing skills for creating clear descriptions and instructions 
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets, documents, or databases (Excel, Google Sheets,) 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work successfully with others in a team environment. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to work independently with guidance 
  • Ability to attend occasional in-person programs or site visits 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may include occasional weekends and evenings. 

Preferred (But Not Required) 

  • Experience working with children or youth programs 
  • Familiarity with art-making processes and materials 
  • Basic understanding of accessibility and inclusive programming 

Technical & Practical Requirements 

  • Ability to photograph artwork using a phone or camera 
  • Basic file management skills (naming, organizing folders, uploading images) 
  • Respect for diverse communities and learning styles 
  • Physical Requirements (optional) able to lift 20 to 35lbs. 

Application deadline: February 27th, 2026.    

  • The pay rate for this internship is $21/hr. The internship is 28 hours per week for 9 weeks.   
  • Studio Arts Interns spend one day a week participating in Arts Intern’s professional development and career exploration meetings.   
  • The tentative start date for this internship is June 3rd, 2026.
