Social & Digital Media Intern
This is a Community Federal Work Study (CFWS) position. CFWS is a government-funded
program that allows students to gain real world experience working at community-based
organizations, while getting paid through the university’s Financial Aid Office, up to your
maximum award amount. You must be eligible for work study to apply for this role. Your

In the Greater Bexar County Area, 14.2% of adults are diagnosed with diabetes (9.3% national average). 31% of residents lack readily access to a grocery store. ⅛ of the residents are “food insecure”. Bexar County is challenged with health and wellness needs, especially when oppositions amplified in the Eastside of San Antonio.
The Bexar County Health Collaborative Report 2016 found that life expectancy for Near-Eastside residents is nearly 20 years less than residents of the Far-North and Northwest side of San Antonio. Only 67% of Near-Eastside residents report being in good or excellent health compared to 77% in Bexar County overall and 92% on the far Northside. The Eastside community footprint represents the need to serve an at-risk multicultural population, where unemployment, crime, obesity, diabetes, and poverty rates are the highest in the City of San Antonio.
The programs provided by Gardopia Gardens: Garden-Based Learning Program, Build-A-Garden & Optimization Program, Farmers’ Market Program, Garden Volunteer Program, are preventative in nature, having a strong emphasis on the promotion of the dimensions of wellness, reducing the conditions for obesity and diabetes to prosper through gardening.
Position Summary
The Social & Digital Media Intern plays an active role in the development of Gardopia Garden’s online community. The Social & Digital Media Intern will assist in maintaining digital videos, photos, and other content. The intern will maintain Gardopia Gardens’ presence on various social media platforms and help create and publish content relevant to our customer base. The intern will regularly analyze and report on social media network activity and the Gardopia Gardens website.
Social & Digital Media Responsibilities
- Updates Gardopia Gardens Facebook and Instagram accounts
- Maintains Facebook and Instagram accounts with relevant photos, media flyers, and video pertaining to Health & Wellness
- Post events, news, and announcements, in a timely manner in accordance with specified dates
- Uses research articles, stories, and any other relevant content in a manner that invites conversation and interaction amongst Gardopia Gardens online customer base.
- Responds to posts or comments using best practices in a manner which brings value user’s interaction
- Performs research to further online community interactions within Gardopia Gardens social media platforms
- Presents weekly updates to Executive Staff

- Handle multiple online-media interface platforms such as Squarespace and Hootsuite
- Recognize different goals and styles for communications with different audiences including local and national media, industry analysts, and other key influencers

Requirements
- Strong written (AP style and PR writing) and verbal communication skills
- Ability to own and successfully execute projects, while meeting deadlines

- Computer Literate (Microsoft Suite, G Suite, etc.)

- Education Requirements: 30 hours of college-level coursework in social media management, digital media management, marketing, graphics design, business administration, entrepreneurship, international business, or any other related field.
