Professional Services Intern

We are excited to announce our 2026 Summer Internship program!

Our summer internship program runs from Tuesday, June 9th, to Wednesday, July 29th. The program is hybrid, with in-office work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and remote work on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and we provide all necessary equipment to help you succeed in your role.

As an intern, you will work on real business projects, gaining exposure to various aspects of the company and having the opportunity to make an impact. You will also connect with Delta Dental employees across different business functions, helping you expand your professional network. Throughout the eight-week program, we’ll assist with resume and LinkedIn profile development and provide you with a LinkedIn Learning license. Interns will meet weekly to share experiences and learn from our business leaders. At the end of the program, interns will have the chance to have lunch with Delta Dental’s CEO.

Interns will be compensated at an hourly rate of $22.00.

Job Summary

 

The Professional Services intern will support the Professional Services team, which plays a critical role in managing and maintaining the company’s network of participating dental providers.  This internship provides hands-on exposure to how providers are credentialed, verified, and supported throughout their lifecycle with DDNJ/CT. 

The intern will assist with operational processes, data review, and quality checks that ensure provider information is accurate, complete, and consistent across systems.  This role is well-suited for students interested in healthcare operations, data integrity, compliance, or business processes. 

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Provider Credentialing and Compliance Support

  • Assist with initial and re-credentialing workflows to help ensure participating dentists meet required standards.
  • Support verification of provider licenses through primary source validation.
  • Help gather and organize missing documentation needed to complete credentialing requirements.

Data Accuracy and Systems Support

  • Review and update provider data in internal systems to improve completeness and adoption of required information (such as licensure details and provider demographics).
  • Participate in internal Audits by comparing records across systems and flagging discrepancies for follow up.
  • Assist in identifying data gaps or inconsistencies across internal databases and systems used to manage provider information.

Operational and Process Improvement Support

  • Assist with reviewing provider participation records, including updated to participation status and payment modalities.
  • Support reviews of provider-facing materials (such as the participating dentist Handbook) and help identify opportunities for improved clarity and consistency.
  • Help assess phone and email bounce back workflows to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce bounced or unanswered communications.

General Team Support

  • Respond to internal and external inquiries by phone or email and route issues appropriately.
  • Provide administrative and project support to the Professional Services team as needed.

  • Data integrity and Directory Accuracy: Why accurate provider information is essential for members and providers.
  • Healthcare Operations and Systems: working across multiple internal platforms to support business needs.

  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Team oriented mindset with an interest in understanding how individual tasks contribute to broader business goals. 
  • Clear Verbal and written communication skills

Experience, Education and Certifications Required 

Experience/Education Required

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Health Sciences, Compliance, or a related field 
  • Relevant coursework, academic projects, campus involvement, or prior internship experience is a plus, but not required 
  • Interest in healthcare operations, provider networks, data accuracy, or regulatory compliance encouraged

Working Environment
