Summary:
Under the supervision of the Grants Administrator, the Tribal Grants Writer researches and writes grant proposals for the seven constituent Native tribes of the Chugachmiut tribal consortium. The Tribal Grants Writer collaborates with and maintains relationships with Tribal leadership, Chugachmiut staff, funders, and other partners as necessary to ensure successful grant-seeking efforts. The Tribal Grants Writer also supports the Regional Grants Writer with Chugachmiut grant proposals as needed. The Tribal Grants Writer, the Regional Grants Writer, and the Grants Administrator form the Grants Department at Chugachmiut.
Major Responsibilities:
- Research funding opportunities by monitoring Federal, State, and philanthropic grant resources on a regular basis
- Identify viable funding sources aligned to tribal community needs and strategic goals/plans
- Distribute funding opportunities to Tribes and Chugachmiut management through newsletters and other reports
- Assist Tribes and Chugachmiut staff in assessing eligibility and viability of funding opportunities by reviewing critical information, including cost match requirements, cost category caps, cash flow requirements, performance period, and others. Evaluate existing resources including available staff, office space, and other resources required for program delivery
- Develop clear, compelling, and high-quality grant proposals for Chugach Region tribes and Chugachmiut, to include narratives, budgets, and other supporting documents and forms
- Ensure proposals meet all funder guidelines and submission requirements.
- Submit grant proposals through online portals as directed, track submission confirmations, and monitor status of submitted proposals
- Develop and maintain a schedule of relevant deadlines
- Provide support to other Chugachmiut and Tribal grant writers as directed
- Maintain organized electronic and paper files in accordance with organizational policies and make relevant content available to Chugachmiut management and tribal staff
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to Tribal leadership related to grant proposal development and post-award compliance and management
- Prepare quarterly reports on grant activities, funding outcomes, and trends for supervisors
- Maintain templates, boilerplate language, and standard attachments for grant submissions
- Stay informed of funding trends affecting Tribal and rural communities
- Participate in professional development related to grant writing and funding compliance
- Travel to Chugach Region tribal communities to work on proposals as applicable.
- Conforms to safety policies and general housekeeping practices
- Demonstrates sound work ethics, flexibility, and shows dedication to the position
- Demonstrates a positive attitude, is respectful, and possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity toward clients and co-workers
- Conforms to Chugachmiut policies and HIPAA regulations
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, History, Anthropology, or a related field with an emphasis on writing, research, and analysis.
• Experience working closely with diverse project stakeholders, especially Alaska Native/American Indian project teams.
• Experience in developing high-quality, competitive grant proposals to Federal, State, and philanthropic sources. Evidence of significant successful proposals and project completion is highly preferred.
Hours of Work:
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one hour for lunch. Chugachmiut maintains a drug, alcohol and non-smoking work environment.
