Planning and Zoning Intern

Are you a planning student eager to turn classroom knowledge into real-world impact? Our Planning team is seeking an intern who is ready to apply their academic studies to meaningful work that supports our community. This internship is designed for students who have completed the majority of their coursework toward a Degree in Planning and may be required by their program to participate in an internship for graduation.

You’ll have the support of our staff and a place in our Planning and Zoning office as you take on a project that aligns with what you’ve learned and where you’re headed.

You can either work with our staff to develop a planning project or bring a specific research or study area, something rooted in your coursework or academic interests, and we’ll help you apply it within our code compliance and planning environment. Our team will provide guidance, access to resources, and insight, enabling you to connect theory with practice in a way that’s truly meaningful.

At the conclusion of your internship, you’ll have the opportunity to present your findings to the Planning & Zoning Board, giving you a platform to showcase your work and build professional confidence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with staff to access relevant local data, systems, and subject-matter expertise

  • Ability to work with staff to define or propose a research/study topic relevant to planning or code compliance
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a readiness to connect academic study with real-world municipal work

This internship runs from June 4 to July 30, 2026. Interns will work up to 25 hours per week, offering a structured and hands-on experience.
