Gate of Clouds Universe — Blue Byron Books

Blue Byron Books is seeking a long-term novelist collaborator to help build and expand the Gate of Clouds universe—our flagship philosophical fiction franchise—with founder, Rich Hebron.

This is not a freelance assignment.
This is a creative partnership.

 

The Project: Gate of Clouds

Gate of Clouds began as an 82,000-word philosophical novel exploring technology, meaning, creativity, and the fragility of life. Three editors have reviewed it and provided constructive feedback. Since then, the project has evolved into a multi-world narrative universe where music artists, cities, and human stories intersect.

Each world is anchored by a music-artist archetype (with entire music catalogs released on all major streaming platforms), but the novels focus on the lives of the fans—young people navigating love, ambition, loss, identity, and purpose in a hyper-stimulated, technology-driven world.

The artist figures function as philosophical presences—appearing as catalysts, guides, or moments of transformation rather than traditional protagonists.

 

The Worlds

Each series of novels takes place in one of the worlds, following characters through a meaningful period of life, builds toward a live performance or gathering, and resolves with insight, transformation, or release.

 

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking one dynamic & cerebral woman novelist to collaborate long-term in developing this universe. This person would execute the main writing.

You might be a strong fit if you:

  • Write, read, or are into philosophical or cerebral fiction with emotional pace
  • Are curious about how technology shapes modern life
  • Think globally and culturally (cities, subcultures, digital-native generational experience)
  • Able to reflect universally on the human phenomenon
  • Are comfortable researching real lived experiences of people in their 20s–30s
  • Enjoy collaboration and shared authorship (James Patterson–style model)
  • Are open to binge-reading and series development (High volume output as frequent as Freida McFadden)
  • Want to create something alive, evolving, and meaningful

This work blends story, philosophy, culture, and momentum.

Our ambition is for the universe to be written in a way that’s easily adaptable for screenplay.

  • Fast but thoughtful publishing cadence
  • Modern, flexible structure (not traditional publishing constraints)
  • Clear creative direction with room to explore and innovate
  • Emphasis on fun, curiosity, and shared momentum

 

Compensation & Structure

  • Revenue-sharing model
    • 50% of royalties to Blue Byron Books
    • 50% of royalties split evenly between the two creators (25% / 25%)
  • Shared ownership in the creative success of the universe
  • Opportunity to help shape the flagship IP of the publishing house
