Worship Leader

Renewal Church | West Chicago, IL

Position Type: Part-time (10 hours/week) - with room for growth
Start Date: 2026
Compensation: ($25/hour)

ABOUT RENEWAL CHURCH

Renewal Church is a vibrant, multiethnic church plant in West Chicago committed to gospel renewal in our neighborhoods and beyond. We believe the kingdom of God is diverse, reconciling, and reflects the beauty of many cultures worshiping together. We want to intentionally create space for authentic expression and discipleship across languages, musical styles, and cultural traditions. We're seeking a worship leader who shares this vision and can help us grow deeper into it.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We're looking for a creative, collaborative worship leader who will oversee and mentor our worship teams while leading us in authentic, multiethnic worship experiences. This role is equal parts team leadership and part musical direction. You'll coordinate volunteers, coach worship leaders, lead worship regularly, and help our community experience the fullness of worshiping God together across cultural lines, helping advance the multiethnic vision of the church.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Worship Leadership & Multiethnic Vision (Primary Focus)

  • Lead worship at least 2 out of every 4 Sundays (selecting music, leading rehearsal, leading the congregation in worship vocally and/or with a primary instrument).
  • In partnership with the pastors, host team, and other worship leaders, create a spiritually and emotionally nourishing environment for the church.
  • In response to the direction of Renewal leaders, champion and implement a multiethnic worship vision. Examples of how this might happen:
    • Collaborate with worship team members to sing songs in Spanish, or other languages that are represented in the community.
    • Recruit and schedule worship leaders who can confidently lead in Spanish.
    • Establish a regular rhythm of Spanish-language songs (i.e. minimum 1 Spanish song per month, led by a fluent leader)
    • Ensure Spanish translation on the screen is available when needed
    • Integrate diverse musical and liturgical styles and cultural expressions authentically—not tokenistically
    • Develop and incorporate liturgies, congregational prayer moments, and worship elements that honor multiple cultural traditions

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and mentor worship team volunteers (musicians, vocalists, tech team)
  • Coordinate worship teams 4-6 weeks in advance using Planning Center
  • Provide regular care, feedback, and appreciation to team members
  • Create healthy environments where volunteers thrive and grow
  • Guide individual team members toward improvement with grace and clarity

Sunday Technical & Logistics Coordination

  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are ready each week (microphones, stands, printed music, etc.)
  • Prepare song slides and coordinate with slide operators through ProPresenter
  • Manage pre- and post-service music (Spotify or other sources)
  • Collaborate with preaching team on engaging visuals for sermon series and special services
  • Ensure sermon is filmed, edited, and uploaded to website

Long-term Planning

  • Lead proactive planning for Christmas, Easter, and special events
  • Participate in strategic worship planning for Sundays and other special worship services
  • Think creatively about enhancing Sunday experiences to be meaningful and engaging and reflect our vision of personal renewal, neighborhood renewal, and renewal through multiethnic community
  • Help advance our multiethnic vision
  • Above all, shepherd our community to enter the throne room and worship Jesus!

SUCCESS MEASURES

  • Church members report cohesive, inspiring worship experiences that reflect our multiethnic identity
  • Worship consistently aligns with Renewal Church's mission and vision
  • Volunteers feel cared for, enjoy serving, and experience healthy spiritual growth
  • Multiethnic worship vision is actively advancing (not static)
  • Time commitments and planning timelines are consistently met

  • Collaborative spirit and positive attitude
  • Willingness to "go above and beyond" when the mission requires it
