News Reporting Intern

The Belmont Voice is a nonprofit newspaper whose mission is to produce independent journalism that keeps the Belmont community connected, well-informed, and engaged by providing thorough, accurate, and fair coverage of topics affecting life in our town. Our newspaper is available online and is delivered free to every household and business in Belmont. 

 

Location:  68 Leonard St #3D,  Belmont, Mass. 02478

 

Requirements: Interns are expected to work from the Belmont office. They will also do some night work, usually covering a government meeting. The successful candidate will work with veteran journalists with over 40 years of combined experience. The goal is for students to sharpen their reporting and writing skills, and to use multimedia skills to provide video, photos and other multimedia elements to their stories. They will also become familiar with covering town news, developing sources, and understanding the local government.  

 

Hours Per Week (Anticipated): ~40 hours per week

 

Term/Duration: Summer, 2025.   Work weeks are 40 hours and the internship will last 12 weeks. Timing is flexible.


 

Compensation: $18/hour


 

Qualifications:

  • Writing and editing experience
  • Photography and video production experience
  • Experience meeting deadlines
  • Ability to juggle multiple stories at once
  • AP style familiarity
  • Google Doc familiarity 
  • Digital publishing experience helpful
  • Multimedia experience is a plus
