Department Summary
University Advancement (UA) supports the University of Oregon’s (UO) mission of providing exceptional teaching, discovery, and service by strategically positioning the university to create awareness, build long-term relationships, and secure resources that increase understanding and further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. The Advancement Strategies and Technology Innovation (ASTI) department is focused on finding the solutions for foundational issues that will best position UO Advancement to achieve its goals around engagement and fundraising.
The department has a unique function in that it is based in UO Advancement but also has a strong working partnership and provides strategic direction to UO Foundation (UOF) and UO Information Services staff.
As part of ASTI, the Donor Relations and Advancement Communications (DRAC) team manages donor relations, special events, volunteer coordination, gift administration, and donor communication. DRAC works cooperatively with the UO President and administrators, school, and college fundraising staff, and UO donors to provide a university-wide stewardship and communication program that moves prospects and donors toward solicitation readiness.
Position Summary
The Graphic Designer works as part of a team of designers in Advancement Communications serving multiple units, including the UO Alumni Association (UOAA). This position maintains visual identity and branding within UO Brand Management and Trademark Licensing, University Advancement, and the UOAA while creating high-quality marketing, branding, and communications materials that span both traditional and digital platforms.
The position will design with the intended audience taken into consideration. These audiences include donors, alumni, students, parents and families, and friends of the university. Work includes designing print, social media, web, email, video, and environmental applications. The designer manages multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and budget constraints, and prioritizes project timelines according to workload demands.
In addition to producing compelling and accessible visual content, the designer proactively examines workflows, identifies opportunities for improvement, and implements solutions to enhance design capabilities.
Minimum Requirements
• 4+ Years of Graphic Design experience OR
• Associates Degree + 3 years of Graphic Design experience OR
• Bachelors Degree + 2 years of Graphic Design experience
Degree may be in Graphic Design, Graphic Art, Fine Art, or closely related field.
Professional Competencies
• Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. CSS and HTML skills are also desired.
• Experience with digital design tools such as Figma and Adobe Express.
• Creative skills, such as illustration, motion graphics, and web design.
• Ability to take creative feedback, execute, and iterate quickly and efficiently.
• Ability to use a project management system; strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to meet independent and team deadlines within defined budgets.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues to deliver high-quality, on-brand designs, while communicating respectfully and inclusively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
• Experience working with approved vendors for print production, collateral development, and mail services.
• Commitment to accessibility standards in design and a strong dedication to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
• Photography and/or video editing skills a plus.
• Experience with animation tools (After Effects).
• Experience working with UX/UI designers and developers.
• Experience working on quick-turnaround projects.
