React Native Engineering Intern – SuperWorld

SuperWorld is building a virtual world mapped onto the real world, where anyone can personalize locations with content, recommendations, events, and bookings from real-world businesses. Our mission is to enhance people’s real lives using immersive tech, Web3, and AI.

As a React Native Engineering Intern, you’ll help bring this vision to life through a beautiful, responsive, and performant web experience.

 

 

About the Role

We're looking for a React Native Engineering Intern to work on our mobile application using React Native, Expo, and Mapbox. You'll collaborate with product, design, and engineering to ship features on our global map-based platform and help us deliver an amazing user experience on iOS and Android

This role is ideal for someone who's passionate about building modern mobile interfaces, loves maps and geospatial experiences, and wants real-world experience in Web3 / immersive tech.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain React Native components for the SuperWorld mobile app using Expo
  • Implement and refine map-based UIs using Mapbox (layers, markers, popups, filters, custom styles)
  • Use NativeWind (TailwindCSS) and Gluestack UI to create consistent, responsive layouts and UI patterns
  • Manage application state using Zustand for global state management
  • Optimize for performance, accessibility, and cross-platform compatibility (iOS and Android)
  • Debug, test, and fix UI issues across different devices and screen sizes

 

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Solid understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript and React
  • Familiarity with React Native concepts and mobile development patterns
  • Experience building responsive layouts using modern styling approaches
  • Hands-on experience (projects or coursework) with at least one of the following:
  1. Mapbox or similar mapping libraries (MapLibre, Leaflet)
  2. Component libraries (Gluestack UI, React Native Paper, NativeBase)
  3. TailwindCSS or NativeWind
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub workflows (branches, pull requests)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, async environment and communicate clearly

 

 

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Expo managed workflow and EAS Build
  • Experience with Mapbox GL or @rnmapbox/maps (sources, layers, custom markers, clustering)
  • Familiarity with Zustand or other state management libraries (Redux, MobX)
  • Experience with TanStack React Query for server state management
  • Knowledge of React Hook Form and Zod
  • Familiarity with React Native Reanimated
  • Understanding of file-based routing with Expo Router
  • Familiarity with Web3 concepts (wallets, NFTs, tokens) or interest in learning
  • Experience consuming REST APIs with Axios
  • Basic knowledge of performance optimization (memoization, lazy loading, MMKV storage)
  • Open-source contributions or personal projects to showcase
