Statewide Marketing & Communications Intern

This position operates as a hybrid position and a paid internship.

The New York Small Business Development Centers (NYSBDC) are going through a complete overhaul of all of their communications efforts. This unique internship opportunity gives learners the opportunity to directly help in remaking an entire statewide communications ecosystem. This position is open to any students in the SUNY system and is hybrid. Look below for more details.

The New York SBDC is a 40-year old statewide business network. It is the most expansive small business network in New York State, funded primarily by the SBA, and administered by SUNY serving more than 30,000 business clients across New York State, with 20 centers and over 70 satellites and outreach centers. We provide free 1-on-1 business client advisory services, while also providing education through our Business Learning Lab, and research through our Research Network.
 

Who: Must be a SUNY student at any campus within the SUNY system including community colleges, four year campuses and research universities.

Duration: 16 weeks

Location: Hybrid (Remote + Weekly Check-Ins at SBDC Center or Campus Location)

Time: 20 hours/wk

Pay: $20/hr

Description: 

The New York Small Business Development Centers (NYSBDC) is seeking a dedicated and committed intern with a desire to be a community builder and join our team as a Statewide Communications and Marketing Assistant.

This position will primarily be working with NYSBDC's Marketing Strategist & Communications Coordinator and Statewide Director of Marketing & Communications.

Areas of Learning/Growth: 

• Assist with the evolution of the new brand, be a key part of the rebranding process and working on projects on brand design for regional centers. 
• Help edit video and guide video projects across the statewide network. 
• Building new and engaging visual content for social media, digital and print. 
• Assist with strategic communications, messaging and planning across the network. 
• Assist with developing a press and media strategy
• Contribute to the organizational vision and communications strategy as a key member of the NYSBDC team

Qualifications: 

• Ideally working towards a degree in communications, design, education or a related field; 
• Experience in creative fields, particularly visual design with an emphasis on composition and typography preferred. 
• Experience with video editing and video highly preferred; 
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills 
• Strong knowledge of AI platforms for creative production preferred. 
• Experience with social media platforms 
• Experience in branding, design systems and visual architectures 
• Knowledge of user-centered design principles or ecosystem design preferred • Preference will be given to applicants from SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton, as the NYSBDC Communications Coordinator is located there, but students are also encouraged to apply from all SUNY schools.
 

Hybrid On-Site Locations

This position is open to any SUNY students across all SUNY affiliated schooles and reports to the central office in Albany, New York, but can be located at any of the following campus locations. Preference is given to candidate from Potsdam and Canton locations, but open to all beyond that.
