Haviland Middle School, part of the Hyde Park Central School District, is seeking a dynamic and dedicated High School Technology Teacher to join our team for a full-time position. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fostering digital literacy and critical thinking skills in students and be committed to creating an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement engaging lesson plans for courses such as Introduction to Engineering, Digital Photography, Graphic Design, Residential Structures, etc.
  • Facilitate a "maker" environment where students use various tools, from traditional hand tools to advanced machinery like 3D printers, CNC routers, and laser cutters.
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment, ensuring all students are trained in proper equipment operation and safety protocols.
  • Incorporate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles into daily instruction, emphasizing problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Evaluate student progress through project-based learning, portfolios, and traditional assessments to meet New York State standards.
  • Potential opportunities to advise student organizations like the Robotics Club

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Technology Education (K-12 or 7-12) or Industrial Arts Certification.
    • Strong classroom management and communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with high school students
    • Must undergo fingerprinting and a background check as required by NYSED.
  • Preferred:
    • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or OnShape), coding languages, and modern fabrication techniques
    • Experience with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum
    • Ability to collaborate with local industry partners for student internship or mentorship opportunities
    • Familiarity with restorative practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, and evidence-based instructional strategies
