Who We Are: The 16 Strong Project is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of the nation’s youth by empowering resilience to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) through student-led initiatives, educational workshops, school partnerships, and community outreach. 16 Strong strives to continue conversations that help young people recognize and navigate the challenges they might be facing as a result of ACEs. Adverse childhood experiences are the number one unaddressed public health issue facing our nation’s youth. We believe that with strong support systems, healthy coping mechanisms, and a positive mindset, the negative impacts of ACEs can be mitigated.

Position Description: The 16 Strong Project currently seeks a Youth Mental Health Advocacy Programming Intern to help us grow our online presence and reach. As a social media intern, you will be responsible for planning, creating, scheduling and posting content across all of our social media platforms. You will also be working closely with our public relations team to develop and execute campaigns that are designed to promote the 16 Strong Project and engage our target audience. Responsibilities Include:

  • Research and develop social media strategies
  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing social media marketing campaigns
  • Brainstorm/offer ideas for social media projects/opportunities
  • Work alongside the team to create a plan for social media strategies
  • Write engaging and shareable social media posts that promote content
  • Schedule content to be published on social media at ideal times
  • Assist in the growth of the 16 Strong Project by raising awareness through various social media platforms
  • Monitor postings to ensure 16 Strong messaging is constant from the terminology used to images posted
  • Assist in implementing plans to increase followers on popular social media websites such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter
  • Build and maintain relationships with influencers and create engaging content
  • Track industry trends and developments
  • Monitor, analyze and track social media posts and trends that promote content for effectiveness

Qualifications:

  • Displays excellent written and verbal communication skills and have a thorough understanding of social media management and strategy
  • In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube etc.
  • Knowledge of project management and web design best practices
  • Experience researching, editing and creating, social media content
  • Understanding of social media metrics; able to interpret the results and take action to increase effectiveness of social media campaigns
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Experience in digital marketing and social media

Position Duration, Commitment: This position is for the Spring semester 2026, (please note-the start and end dates are flexible). The intern will work approximately 8-10 hours weekly. Hours are flexible, and this is a remote position that can be done from wherever you are currently living.
