Engineering Assistant / Intern
Under direct supervision, this position will assist the Engineering department in a variety of areas including graphic information systems, on site field work, records research and data collection, and general engineering duties.
This position can continue annually during the summer through graduation and may be applied as an internship.
Hours of Work: This position will be budgeted for approximately 30-40 hours per week between May 1 and September 1. The work schedule can accommodate the end and beginning of class schedules. Work hours will be between 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday.
Desired Qualifications
- Currently enrolled student pursuing a bachelor’s or associate degree in civil engineering or similar degree.
- High School graduate or GED
Job Tasks
- Reading maps, plans and construction as-built information for the creation of storm sewer database and mapping utility.
- Assisting Surveyor with construction staking on street construction projects.
- Assisting Engineering Inspectors with various Right of Way inspection responsibilities including SWPPP, Concrete, and other permit inspections.
- Attend meetings with City staff, consultants, and stakeholders for various construction projects.
- Assisting Engineering Manager with quantity take-offs and cost estimates for construction projects.
- Assisting with installation of equipment and analysis of data from traffic studies performed by Department staff.
