Water Resources Intern

To support the Water Resources Division in the monitoring, inventory and maintenance of the city’s surface water resources.  

 

Essential Functions

  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers in a manner that inspires professionalism, strong communication, team building and alignment with city values. 
  • Perform visual inspection of MS4 outfalls and storm water ponds and record data in GPS unit using MS4 Front and Cartegraph™ Asset Management software.
  • Update GIS database and the map of the city’s storm sewer conveyance and treatment system. 
  • Provide erosion control inspections of active construction sites to confirm compliance with applicable National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permits and city code and communicate these findings with the property owner, contractor and city staff.
  • Assist facilitation of educational activities with various community organizations.
  • Manage vegetation and use storm water best management practices for shoreline restoration, rain garden maintenance, buffer establishment and maintenance, wetland restoration and others.
  • Administer water quality monitoring and database management. 
  • Support the department’s survey work and construction staking.
  • Work with computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare documents.
  • Perform administrative duties which may include answering phones, working at the counter, filing, etc., and any other work as apparent or assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in college or have recently completed a bachelor’s degree with a major in geology, GIS, environmental science, water resources, engineering or a related field.
  • A valid Class D driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in accordance with the City of Plymouth’s CIVIC values (customer focus, integrity, visionary, inclusion and connection) and comfort with supporting and advancing the city council’s strategic priorities.


Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience with GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap), GPS data collection, construction techniques and standards, plan interpretation and reading as-builts.
