Public Relations for Movie
PR / Media Relations Intern — Documentary Film
We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive PR / Media Relations Intern to help build awareness for the film – a feature documentary about a popular, unique, artist-driven, community-rooted music festival set in the Appalachian Mountains – through thoughtful, targeted outreach to journalists, podcasters, and cultural platforms as the project moves through production, festivals, and release.
Role Overview
This is a hands-on opportunity for someone interested in public relations, media, journalism, or film promotion. You will help research and manage media contacts, support press outreach, pitch story ideas, track coverage, and assist in building a grassroots publicity campaign for the film, working closely with the movie producers, festival organizers, and creative team, gaining real experience in how independent films build visibility and momentum.
Key Responsibilities
Media Research & List Building
- Research journalists, editors, podcasters, and media outlets covering:
- Music, culture, Americana, and folk/roots scenes
- Film and documentaries
- Build and maintain organized media contact lists (email, outlet, beat, notes)
- Identify priority targets for different phases (production, festivals, release)
Pitching & Outreach
- Help draft and tailor pitch emails for:
- Podcast guest appearances
- Film features and interviews
- Artist and cultural stories connected to the film
- Track outreach, responses, and follow-ups
- Support relationship-building with journalists and creators over time
Press Materials Support
- Assist in preparing and updating:
- Press releases
- Media kits
- One-sheets and fact sheets
- Bio materials for filmmakers and featured artists
- Ensure assets are organized, accurate, and up to date
Podcast & Speaking Outreach
- Identify podcasts aligned with music, film, culture, and Americana
- Pitch the filmmakers, artists, or organizers as guests
- Track bookings and coordinate scheduling support
Coverage Tracking & Reporting
- Monitor media mentions, press hits, and social coverage
- Maintain a press log with links, dates, and notes
- Assist in compiling press recaps and reports
Who You Are
- Experienced in and interested in PR, journalism, communications, film, or media
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable researching and writing professionally
- Curious, proactive, and persistent – tenacious without being annoying, innovative in approach, and strategic in finding opportunity
- Familiar with podcasts, media outlets, and cultural platforms
- Able to work independently and manage multiple lists and tasks
- Strong written communication skills

- Time Commitment: ~10–20 hours per week, starting in February 2026
- Location: Fully remote
- Compensation: TBD; college credit available if applicable
