Pay rate: $95 to $100 per hour

3 days per week onsite in Brooklyn, NY

 

2 days remote

 

 

Work Schedule

Normal business hours: Monday–Friday

 

35 hours per week (excluding mandatory unpaid meal break after 6 hours)

 

Occasional weekend work may be required based on project needs

 

 

Scope of Services

The UX Design Lead will serve as a strategic leader and advocate for user-centered, data-driven digital experiences for New Yorkers. This role reports to OTI Digital Service and works closely with the Innovation Team in the Mayor’s Office to improve digital access to child care services.

The UX Design Lead will apply interaction design and front-end development skills to design, prototype, and test user-focused solutions for a child care digital hub serving parents and childcare providers across New York City.

As the hub approaches launch, the role will focus on final design refinements, followed by the development and testing of new features for Version 2.0. Post-launch responsibilities include analyzing performance metrics, refining designs, and integrating new features to enhance usability and accessibility.

 

Key Responsibilities / Tasks

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, UX researchers, content strategists, and developers

 

Translate user needs and research insights into effective design solutions

 

Develop prototypes and high-fidelity designs for the childcare hub website

 

Conduct prototype testing for new features and analyze results to inform design decisions

 

Partner with content strategists to shape and enhance the overall content design strategy

 

Support post-launch optimization through performance tracking and iterative design improvements

 

 

Mandatory Skills & Experience

Candidates without all mandatory skills will not be considered.

Minimum 8 years of professional experience in UX design

 

Strong portfolio demonstrating successful, user-friendly, consumer-facing solutions

 

Portfolio link must be included on the resume

 

Strong visual design skills, including typography, spacing, and layout

 

Advanced proficiency in Figma, with experience creating end-to-end design solutions independently

 

Deep understanding of user-centered design processes, including user journey mapping, wireframing, high-fidelity mockups, and prototyping

 

Ability to translate user research and data insights into actionable design solutions

 

Strong collaboration skills and ability to incorporate feedback effectively

 

Experience working with product managers, content strategists, and developers

 

Experience conducting prototype testing and visual QA to ensure design fidelity

 

Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain design concepts to non-technical stakeholders

 

 

Desirable Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Design, UX Design, HCI, Computer Science, or a related field

 

Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams delivering user-centered digital products

 

Experience in public sector projects or working with government partners

 

Strong knowledge of design and design research methodologies

 

Experience conducting usability testing and interpreting research findings

 

Familiarity working within constrained design systems and extending existing components

 

Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design best practices

 

Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in design practice
